    Jocketty's hibernation

When do you think our GM will wake up? Or is this more of a coma than a hibernation?

Jocketty has done next to nothing since the Choo trade 13 months ago.

    What a joke.

He already signed Heisey this offseason, he's done.

Needs to do something to get the maligned fan base excited again....everywhere I look/read we are none to excited for opening day to have a competitive team with the Cardinals

    Let's not be hyperbolic.

Walt isn't hibernating. He is simply asleep for 14-20 hours per day.

"Right now, we have the club we're going to Spring Training with, we'll make changes as we need." -Walt

yep sounds like another "we tried to do something, but the asking price was to high" blah blah blah as usual

"Walt, what were your key offseason improvements?"

"I'm chipping a lot better with the 9-iron."

Well, the people in the O.R.G are 100% certain the Pirates and Cardinals are going to regress and we basically have the same team as 2012 (and therefore are guaranteed at least the same amount of wins). What is there to worry about?

    False Generalization.

    Is it though?

I've seen a ton of posts about how the Cardinals can't repeat RISP success, are woe for losing Beltran, and the first year pitchers are gonna be lit up the second time around. Many predicting 85-88 wins.

I've seen the same people say the Pirates are flash in the pan, one-season wonders, can't repeat their success.

Granted, it's not the opinion of the masses... but it is more than one or two posters laying those claims.

Payroll's already at/near a record high for the organization. Unfortunately, there's not an endless stream of funds.

Personally, I'm not that thrilled with the idea of trading away the rotation. Pitching wins in the long run. The exception might be Cueto but who really knows what's been talked about with him behind the scenes to no avail?

Sometimes the hardest thing is standing pat. I'd rather do that than make a move just to show activity, and then it blows up.

Sometimes the best trade is the one you didn't make.

The hibernation may be coming down from the top.

The 2013 payroll was increased significantly and didn't translate to an increase in on-field performance.

Castellini might've tightened the purse strings in response to last year's (relative to 2012) pedestrian results.

The Reds let Xavier Paul and Derrick Robinson go, lost Choo, and yet have only signed Shumacker. They are two men short in the OF.

    Paul, Choo, Robinson, Heisey

    Ludwick, Hamilton, Schumaker, Heisey

How do you figure they are short 2?

They keep more than 4 OFers on the roster, and many aren't sure Hamilton starts in the majors. With that list Ludwick and Hiesey platoon with Schumaker in LF? That's not much of an up grade over all the guys last year. They Reds can still add another lefty to platoon in LF because Schumacker can play in the INF too.
