Braves have said they'd expect any trade partner for Uggla to take on 6 million of his remaining contract. If they take on more than 6 million, they'll include a prospect. I think they better expect to do a little better on prospects.

OK. Marshall's shoulder probably kills the deal. So what are the other possibilities? Or is Uggla a deal-breaker?
I think that's a fine deal, and I don't see Marshall's shoulder as a deal breaker (is he not expected back full-strength next year?). People can scream about Uggla all they want, and they're right he sucks, but he's not going to be as bad going forward as he was last year, and Alex Wood is a good pitcher who can replace Marshall's production early and then slide into the rotation when all the starters we have are entering free agency. It's not a win-now move but it's a net-win over the long run that doesn't hurt you much in the short run. I wouldn't do the move because I wouldn't be trying to trade Phillips in the first place, but if you're already dead-set on that path, you could do a lot worse than this.

I see Wood as a quality starter, and have my doubts the Braves would actually deal him.

But if they did, it would allow the Reds to deal another starter as well as saving about $36M.

Strange. I'd never heard of Mr. Creosote, either.

I would rather keep Brandon Phillips and have the front office give him an attitude adjustment. And I think they have already started the process by firing Dusty Baker and putting out those trade rumors.

Would be nice if you could unsay what's been said.

Could always substitute Broxton for Marshall.

Saves a little more and keeps the lefty.

But then you lose the symmetry of a second Marshall/Wood deal.

You probably also lose any chance of it actually happening. No one is going to touch Broxton until they see him healthy. He's also more expensive.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

True. I'm also not sure how Marshall's late-season return affected his trade status. I don't think the Reds can really count on a return to form from either of those guys.
