The story of this night for ESPN will be how the Heat disintegrated. For me, it's how the Spurs DOMINATED. Beautiful, team-oriented basketball. Not superstar-centered. When they're clicking on all cylinders like that, they're untouchable. And it's a beautiful thing to watch.
Spurs rival the '77 Blazers for prettiest team play. Just a joy to watch as a hoops fan.

The Heat's supporting cast fell apart. Allen and Bosh were the only non-James player I felt good about by the end. Age and fatigue caught up to them. Four straight Finals trips will do that.
As far as the Spurs, the ball movement was magnificent, but it happened because they made most of their open looks in the last three games. In games 3 and 4, every Spur was making every shot they took, so Miami had to respect everyone on the court and switch and close out maniacally. The Spurs were certainly smart to make the extra or extra-extra pass to the open man, but that was a product of Kawhi, Green, Diaw, and Mills making every shot they took. The Spurs weren't able to make as many passes and were a little more of a simple drive and kick/pick and roll team in games one and two. Those two things go hand in hand. Last year the same thing happened early in the series because Danny Green was making massive amounts of threes. It spread the floor and forced Miami's guys to fly all around the court, leaving others open. So, their passing IS the reason they were so good, but their passing came from making open shots. If they miss those shots, the offense has to adjust and the defense can cheat.
Miami passes the ball similarly when their tertiary guys like Chalmers/Cole/Lewis/Allen/Battier are making 3's. As the Van Gundy's say, it is a make/miss league.

Well, nobody's perfect.
When the Blazers were 22-4 back in December and they had just beaten the Spurs in San Antonio, those watching the game couldn't help but comment that it was like watching clones of the Spurs. The Blazers' switches on Defense mirrored the Spurs. Their Offense mirrored the Spurs. Then it all fell apart. The Defense stopped and the ball movement lessened. Instead of resembling the Spurs, they resembled the Blazers from the year before.
It's a compliment to be compared to a Popovich-coached team.

One guy can make all the difference in the NCAA tournament. You don't need a team playing together to win it all. He also was a lot more humble at that age than after he received a $100M dollars plus since then.
As he got older, his maturity went the wrong direction. He didn't get wiser, he got even more self-centered, and more of a disruptive force on a basketball team than when he was younger.
Making the playoffs in the NBA is not something to be proud of. More than 50% of the teams make the playoffs.
You only have to watch his play on the court to see the negatives that he brings to his team. He's not like LeBron, though nearly as talented. LeBron has always kept a perspective on what it takes to win in the NBA...he has always tried to make his teammates better. Carmelo has never done that. Anthony will never, ever win a title until he's a small part of the equation, long after his best years are over with.

This kind of analysis drives me crazy. How is he a disruptive force on the court? I haven't seen him yelling at teammates. How can he be the disruptive force on a team that included Metta World Peace and J.R. Smith? Was he a disruptive force last year when they won over 50 games?
He isn't nearly as gifted as LeBron. He doesn't have the leaping ability, quickness, or passing skills that make LeBron a total freak. He is an elite isolation scorer, jump shooter, is really strong, has a big backside (a huge asset in basketball), and is an excellent rebounder for his size. He is not a great defender, but his particular size and speed don't lend themselves to being dominant on that side of the ball.
As for the "he can't win" stuff, there is only one title a year. Not everyone can win. Sometimes there are just players/teams that are better than others. LeBron is better than Carmelo and has been on better teams than Carmelo has ever been on. The same goes for Kobe, Shaq, Wade, Nowtizki, and Duncan. Those guys are all top 25 all time players (with maybe Wade on the edge of that group). There is no shame in losing to those guys. Barkley didn't have any character flaws, he just played during the era of Michael Jordan and Hakeem. It seems awfully easy to just say, "he can't win because of some mental deficiency". If you remember, LeBron and Jordan got the same treatment when they were younger.

Style of play. Pretty simple.
He dominates a locker room. It's pretty obvious. Combine that with his style of play and that makes him a disruptive force, whether that's to a Coach's efforts or other teammates' efforts to play a team game. He's "all for one", not "one for all".
