Minor Moves: Rox, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Turpen, Clark

By Jeff Todd [January 31 at 7:45pm CST]

The MLB.com transactions page also notes that the Reds have agreed to a minor league deal with Edgar Gonzalez. The right-hander, who turns 31 in February, allowed 15 runs in 18 innings between Toronto and Houston last season but owns a 4.35 ERA in 854 1/3 Triple-A innings.

The Reds have added another high-minor catcher, Bryan Anderson. That's on top of Max Ramirez and Rossmel Perez.

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/0...-anderson.html

Seems like a couple possibilities here. Either they don't want to push Barnhart to AAA, or they want a veteran or two to handle the AA staff. That, in turn, begs the question of whether, given all the veteran pitchers they've signed (Wang, Francis, Gonzalez, Beato, etc), they want to hold some of the higher prospects (the likes of Crabbe, Contreras, Hayes, Manno, Renken) a little longer at AA. (I'm assuming Stephenson and Moscot will stay).

    Minor Moves: Bryan Anderson

By Charlie Wilmoth [February 1 at 3:00pm CST]

Here are today's minor moves from around baseball.

The Reds have signed catcher Bryan Anderson to a minor-league deal, Baseball America's Matt Eddy tweets. The 27-year-old Anderson, once a top prospect in the Cardinals system, hit .224/.302/.400 for the White Sox' Triple-A Charlotte affiliate in 2013. The White Sox outrighted him in October. Anderson has collected 68 career big-league plate appearances, the majority of those coming with the Cardinals in 2010.

Minor Moves: Robinson, Knapp, Egan, Morillo, Garrison, Wrigley, Geer, Johnson

Reliever Pat Egan has signed with the Reds, Eddy tweets. Though he has yet to crack the bigs at age 29, the towering righty has found success in recent seasons at the upper reaches of the minors. In 2013 with the Braves organization, Egan notched a 2.95 ERA in 73 1/3 innings (though he was better at Double-A than Triple-A). And in 2012, he was good for 67 innings of 1.61 ERA ball for the Orioles' top affiliates.

Henry Rodriguez must have cleared waivers. He's here and taking his physical. Was designated when #Reds picked up Brett Marshall.

    Reds Re-Sign Chris Nelson

By Steve Adams [April 7 at 2:57pm CST]

2:57pm: Nelson's contract contains a May 6 opt-out clause, tweets MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo.

2:28pm: Infielder Chris Nelson, who opted out of his minor league contract with Cincinnati at the end of Spring Training, has re-signed a minor league contract with the Reds and will report to Triple-A Louisville, the team announced on Twitter.

Nelson, 28, enjoyed a strong Spring Training with the Reds, batting .317/.348/.463 with a homer and three walks in 46 trips to the plate. Nelson bounced around to three teams last year, seeing time with the Rockies, Yankees and Angels. The Williams & Connolly client was originally selected by the Rockies with the ninth overall pick in the 2004 draft. Though he hasn't put together an impressive Major League stat line to this point, Nelson has raked at Triple-A, hitting .320/.367/.516 in 205 games. His best season in the Majors was in 2012, when he batted .301/.352/.458 with nine homers in 377 plate appearances.

As expected, Junior Morillo (Dayton) was put on the disabled list. It looks as if Ryan Kemp is taking his roster spot. Kemp was the Reds' 14th-round draft choice in 2011. He was with Dayton in 2012. He does not seem to have played in 2013.

Jesse Winker went on the 7-day DL (Concussion). Nick Benedetto will take his place.

Reds signed Shelley Duncan and Lou Marson to minor league deals today, I would assume they'll be AAA depth. I think I'd rather have Duncan on the MLB roster over Soto though, at least Duncan has shown he can hit some dingers in the big leagues.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    2013 Majors : .182/.297/.309
    2013 Minors : .215/.287/.382

If Shelley Duncan is the answer, I don't want to hear the question.
