Deal Hanigan to the Rays for Joyce as insurance and a LH bat off the bench. They'd probably have to move Ludwick to make it happen, but if they didn't Ludwick and Joyce would be a pretty nice 1-2/right-left bench combination and plenty of insurance. Maybe a lesser deal for Span as a bridge to Billy.
Carlos is one of the best in the clubhouse from what I can tell. Everyone seemed to love the guy. Not sure if he would settle for 2 years though.

Reds signed Ludwick instead, and he was just as good as Beltran in 2012. Beltran could have just as easily been the one injured in 2013.

With all the free agents getting QO, Reds could be forfeiting around a 10-15 slot pick in a very deep draft. This is not the year to sign a player with a QO.

Why didn't he take the Cardinals QO if he might be willing to sign for 2/$20MM?

Beltran would have put the Giants away in 2012. Also, he'd have been a huge factor the Reds in 2013. Nothing against Ludwick - he had a fine 2012 - but he's no Carlos Beltran.

You should look at Ludwick's postseason numbers for the Reds again. He was among our best, if not our best, in the playoffs.

Ludwick posted a 1.200 OPS against the Giants in the playoffs.

Ludwick's had sterling postseason numbers for the Reds. Beltran, however, takes over entire series. Obviously I can't prove Beltran would have made the difference because he wasn't there (he was busy putting away the Nats), but I'm convinced to a moral certainty on it. Sometimes you need an icon.

+1. He'd make Choo look like a perennial GG CF'er.

I really have a bad feeling about Beltran as a Red.

I would rather they take a flyer on Corey Hart. Let him battle it out with Ludwick, make a trade somewhere to free up the cash it would take to sign Choo.

Hart's a good target, at least from a value standpoint.

Assuming he falls off the radar a bit from being hurt the entire year.

His name is never mentioned by the national media.

He's a great under the radar target.

Wheels; I'm with you bud. I just think at this stage in Beltran's career that he is better suited in the AL w/ the DH. I can just see a season ending injury and a pile of cash sent to the DL. You may not get the full potential from Hart but if healthy he is an All Star type bat.

He gives you power at value. I'm a fan.
