I will give him a better walk up song.
Interesting to note that Jason was full over the cliff at the age of 32. Of course Hanigan turned 32 last year and ....appeared to drive over the cliff.
Now, LaRue had played 643 games by then and Hanigan is only on 474.
I know all about small sample sizes and catchers, but the rays could really regret that contract. It's the Paul Janish rule. Defence may carry you, but no matter how well you play your position if you hit below 220, they will look to replace you.

I'll take my scorecard and pencil and beer and hot dog and rage at the dips and cheer at the highs, but I'm not ever going to stop loving this game and this team and nobody will ever take that away from me." One of Hanigan's dogs won a Best of Breed ribbon at Westminster.
I'm only sharing this because I really like the movie Best in Show. And I already miss Hanigan.

Anyone else find it odd all these writers are saying the Reds got nothing in return for Hanigan?
Seems like Holmberg is a solid pitching prospect to me.
I've read a number of articles critical of the Hanigan trade, but very few note that the Reds' catchers last season simply did not hit. They had one of the NL's worst offenses at the catcher position.
Something had to change. One could debate trading Hanigan and keeping Mes, and one can argue whether Pena was an adequate addition. Some would have added a more major player, like a Saltamacchia, whose name I'm undoubtedly misspelling.
These articles do not necessarily grasp the Reds offensive issues last year and how it would have been almost impossible to leave the catching situation alone. There are also ramifications for the general team philosophy of giving full chances to prospects, like a Mesoraco.
I have doubts about Mes but catcher is one position where the Reds did make an appropriate attempt to fix things this off-season. It's a reasonable approach, no matter what the various articles say.
Reminds me of the buzz all teams seemed to get for being dumb and letting go of Jack Cust or Mark Bellhorn. Some will weigh skill sets differently based on what's the statistical flavor of the day is. It used to be secondary average and power and now it's pitch framing and catchers defensive chops.
Both groups of players problem have some warts, let's all just acknowledge that Hannigan's was his bat (not his at bat's but his bat)

(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.
