In the last day the A's have traded for a 10 million closer and Rays acquired Heath Bell. Can not imagine if Reds or a team like Phillies did that. They would be called dinosaur gms and laughed at.

Well, that was a scary few minutes of Heath Bell hell.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Wonder if Price has some inside knowledge of Holmburg, or has Price been away from Arizona too long to know the kid? Even if Price didn't have first hand knowledge of the prospect, I'm sure the new pitching coach does.

I'm ok with getting a decent pitching prospect as long as Price is around. In Price we trust.

Seems like a good pickup to me. With Arroyo out of the picture and much of the rotation about to hit free agency as well, it will be very useful to have an innings eater that doesn't break the bank.

I said a month ago, that the Reds needed a shuttle worthy pitcher for the 40 man. Because they didn't have the necessary depth. This move seems to address that. Holmberg looks like a guy that can be parked at Louisville and called on as needed. Acceptable.

Yeah, the A's gave up a young cheap position player to get a widely-considered-overpaid-and-overrated closer, too. While I haven't seen lots of bile from the Internet about it, it hasn't exactly been praised either.

Apparently nobody. They're hoping the other teams involved don't notice this until it's too late.

I'm thrilled with the return on this trade. Much better than I thought.
Holmberg can be another "emergency starter" next year and in a year or two, might be a presentable BOR arm.
He might wash out, but this seems like a good risk to take.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Pretty neutral if that's the deal. Decent piece, but would think he would be a better complement piece for BP or Homer in a bigger deal. Maybe I'm overvaluing Hanigan

Wait, the Reds are getting a LH starting pitcher? I didn't think they were allowed to do that.

Love that he has pitched over 150 innings the last 3 seasons. Seems built for innings so just need to hope they are quality innings.

Fangraphs recently did a top 10 prospects for Arizona and Holmberg came in 7th.
