    I really don't like where these contracts are going. This has probably been discussed ad nauseum, but when do you have to call for a salary cap? Contracts are rising MUCH faster than inflation, which is reflected in cost of attending a game. In 10 years, it seems Joey Votto's contract will look more like the median than the superstar salary.

    Imagine if Votto were the premier free agent this year. Well, he might not get that much more than he's getting now, but it's likely he'd reach 260 or 270 from someone.

    New television contract money starts in 2014. Teams have more to spend.

    I think this significantly increases the chances of a Phillips for Gardner trade.

    Personally, I'd want more than just Gardner. Perhaps Gary Sanche would be a good start, if he can stay behind the dish.

    Ellsbury is basically the same player as Gardner.
    I don't understand why Yankees chose Ellsbury over Choo or Beltran.

    Ellsbury=> Crawford, Reyes and Bourn

    They'll be happy about this deal in a very short time.

    I eagerly await the inevitable trade in two years in which the Yankees will send Ellsbury, Brian McCann and CC Sabathia to Anaheim for Erick Aybar and whatever.
    They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

    I would assume the New York Yankees are big fans of repeating history.
