The Astros have designated Brett Wallace for assignment to make roster space for newly signed pitcher Jerome Williams, the club announced via press release. Once the game's 27th overall prospect, Wallace never found sustained success in Houston.

The Diamondbacks have avoided arbitration with Mark Trumbo, settling on a one-year, $4.8MM deal, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports via Twitter. Trumbo's salary lands just north of the $4.7MM he was projected to earn by MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz.

The Mariners have agreed to a two-year, $14MM deal with reliever Fernando Rodney, reports Jonah Keri of Grantland (via Twitter). Rodney, a client of MVP Sports Group, could earn up to $15MM if he meets the deal's incentives.

I'd take a shot on Wallace over Hannahan.

on the contrary. I'll take that power in a pinch to counter Schumaker's more steady craftsmanship coming off the bench. Another ex cardinal also, good organization. 3 swings to put one in the seats, jog around and try Billy Hamilton's patience.

Hannahan is signed for 2014. The Reds have an option for 2015 and if they pass Hannahan gets a buyout. It appears to be a $2 million buyout, obviously agreed to in lieu of more salary during his two year contract.

The Reds are not trading or cutting Hannahan. And after last season, no other team is taking on the buyout obligation.

Despite all the RedsZone posts to the contrary, Hannahan is going no place.

Walt should be kicked to the curb for that deal alone (K, that one and Broxton's) and if there weren't a Bavasi skulking around I'd be calling for just that.

Hannahan is one of the better bench players in MLB right now. He had a crappy year at the plate, but he's an elite fielder at 3B who can fill in at SS in a pinch.

The Reds needed someone to back up Frazier, and spell him on defense. Much to everyone's surprise, Frazier was outstanding in the field last year, and didn't need to be replaced for defense, so Hannahan didn't have much of a role.

But it was a smart signing, even if it didn't work out last year.

Walt's only under contract through 2014. These 2 year deals might create a problem for his successor, if he doesn't come back in 2015.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/418305/arroyo-lowers-asking-price-2-years-$22-mil

Arroyo lowers asking price: 2 years, $22 mil

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Bronson Arroyo is no longer demanding a three-year deal.
The veteran right-hander is now seeking something closer to two years at $22 million. The Diamondbacks, Dodgers and Orioles are believed to be the primary contenders for Arroyo, who posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last season for the Reds and has been the most durable pitcher in baseball over the past nine years. He should be signing a contract soon.

Hopefully it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.

I know I'd take Bernadina over Hannahan 9 times outta 10.

He's one of the better bench players in MLB? Jack Hannahan with a .605 OPS at a corner infield spot is one of the best bench players in baseball?
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

Hannahan is a respected bench player. Excellent defensive third baseman.

He hit poorly last year, but a bench player doesn't get that much chance to overcome a bad start.

I'm pretty sure Jack will be on the club, and hopefully he will do better next year.
