Apparently Baltimore is talking with Philly about Papelbon. I'd definitely get on the horn with the O's if I'm Walt and see what they would give up for Chapman.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Rakuten Golden Eagles To Sign Kevin Youkilis

By Steve Adams [December 20 at 8:46pm CST]

9:09pm: In an email, Speier clarifies that Youkilis will receive a $2MM signing bonus, $2MM in salary and up to $1MM in incentives.

3:26pm: Youkilis will earn a $4MM base salary, and his contract also contains $1MM worth of "very earnable" incentives, reports Alex Speier of WEEI.com. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports, via Twitter, that Youkilis' plan is to play for just one more season.

Nope. He is now "The Greek God of Woks".

Edit. I see someone already has beat me to the punch.

Would we really want to trade Chapman?

Brian Wilson just got a 1 year 10 million dollar deal after coming back from arm surgery and pitching 13.2 innings. What viable option is out there or on this team to replace a pitcher of Chapman's caliber? And at what cost?

Redszone would erupt if we deal Chapman let alone to a team who wanted Votto & Cueto + for Erik Bedard..

Viable option one: Makes $9 million per year.
Viable option two: Makes $5.5 million per year.
Viable option three: Makes the league minimum but has demonstrated major league success.

All three options are currently under Reds team control for multiple seasons.

Option 1 makes $7 Million in 2014 but nor has he nor Option 2 been healthy.. & if Option 3 was JJ Hoover.. we were ready to demote him after month 1 of this past season.

All 3 are better options than Brian Wilson at $10 million.

And I'd rather have any of those three closing + a major offensive upgrade than the status quo of Chapman closing and last year's team minus Choo.

It's not about whose closing. It's about elite arms in the pen, and Chapman is the only one right now. Marshall could be if healthy, but that's far from certain.

The bullpen as it stands right now, even with Chapman isn't that great. Without Chapman, it isn't even good.

Fay's latest blog quotes Walt saying the Reds never really had a chance with Choo, Hamilton "is the guy" to leadoff in CF and "I don't think we'll be able to get anything done" with Bronson Arroyo.

    2013 - Choo - Arroyo + Hamilton = 2014

Minus Jhonny PEDalta, NL Central teams have spent $24.95M combined. That's less than $1M above Robinson Cano's annual salary for a decade.
