Different categories. There's a huge difference between a healthy poor performer and a guy who played at a high level but has been physically unable to perform. One is a bad practice (trying to get crap to stick on the wall) while the other is about "if he's healthy, is he good anymore?"

    Totally different categories.

I don't see the harm in seeing what he has.

It is what the team is reduced to, apparently.

Worse thing that happens is he gets cut in spring training, not a terrible move.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

Sizemore is a typical Reds pickup.. Buy low and then once he outperforms sign him to a 2-3 year deal.

Well, at least he'll draw ratings for MLB's Hard Knocks at Spring Training.

Just out of curiousity more than anything but would it be possible to sign a guy like Sizemore to a multi-year incentive laden deal? Perhaps he can make 3/40 million after vesting options if he performs at a tip top level over time? But we pay him the league minimum for a year if he doesnt pan out.

Would a player ever go for that in the first place?

Shades of Jimbo and Krivsky. All those two year contracts for fodder really hurt us. Hope the guys that got them were grateful. Ondrusek and Hannahan, you just made a MLB club when no one else wanted you and did pretty much nothing. Typical.

On a minor league deal, absolutely. ML deal with real money...that makes me a bit more concerned.

I will say this, he is a great "lightning in a bottle" option.

Re: Reds Kicking The Tires To Grady Sizemore

This is Ron Gant 1995 or Eric Davis 1996. A guy that has missed a year (2 years for Sizemore) gets healthy and signs an incentive laden deal. Mark Mulder's deal is worth up to 6 mil in incentives. I'd do that for Sizemore, because if he reached them, he'd be underpaid. I see Incentive deals worth about 1/3 of performance value on today's market.

    Low risk, high reward.
