I still have my AOL email address... no reason to change it, AOL email is fine, it's not like it means you're an AOL subscriber.

I still have mine too. I certainly don't use AOL as my ISP now, just as a secondary e-mail address.

Re: Redszone 2014 MLB Hall of Fame

I think the following players are HOF worthy. If I actually had a ballot, I'd vote for the guys with stars based on the strategic approach of omitting guys who I know will stay on the ballot but whose non-election is a function of PED issues rather than debates about worthiness.

    1. Bagwell
    2. Biggio*
    3. Bonds
    4. Clemens
    5. Glavine*
    6. Maddux*
    7. Martinez*
    8. McGwire
    9. Mussina*
    10. Palmerio
    11. Piazza*
    12. Raines*
    13. Schilling*
    14. Sosa
    15. Thomas*
    16. Trammell*
    17. Walker

I'm a big hall type of guy who thinks more harm is done to the institution by failing to honor the guys who had the biggest impact on the field our best than by honoring those who aren't inner circle types. And I think most people feel that way about their youth era, just not about other eras. It's why you see all these writers from the 70s and 80s insisting on guys like Bruce Sutter, Jim Rice, and Jack Morris. They want their era to be preserved from a narrative standpoint in which those guys played significant roles regardless of objective analysis of performance.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Struggling to leave anyone here out. Schilling is deserving. Also, I agree with Rick on his list.

Really torn on the Bonds/Clemens thing. They were already HoF worthy before getting themselves mixed up with PEDs. Bonds is arguably the most complete player ever. I just don't know, so for the time being, I would hold off on him.

    Give me:

    Glavine
    Maddux
    Martinez
    Thomas
Rounding third and heading for home...

I'm a weird HOF voter when it comes to PED's. My feeling is that if you were a HOF player without taking PED's, you should get in. That's why I left Clemens off the list. I think he was using much earlier and more often than most, and the PED's were a big part of his success for a big part of his career.

While I would have kicked out Bonds for using, I don't think getting kicked out of game after you were a HOF player should exclude you from the HOF. I don't take the "morality clause" of the HOF very seriously. Most players were jerks, especially the great ones.

Re: Redszone 2014 MLB Hall of Fame

Several years ago - I want to say in maybe 2006 or 2007 - I kick started a "RedsZone Hall of Fame" theme of threads. We inducted well over 100 players before the fun little project tailed off.

I'm not necessarily sure where we left it, but if one or more folks have the energy and desire to bring it back and continue from where we left off it could be a fun offseason exercise.

Trammell floundering at 20% continues to mystify me.
