I think my whole scenario here is a huge longshot. If Reds don't sign Bailey I don't think they turn around and sign a free agent pitcher. They don't seem in the market for major contracts right now.

    Even Arroyo is doubtful IMO.

If the Reds don't sign Bailey long term, they will play it out for awhile and see what's cooking at the deadline. They'll do a one year deal in that event.
No use in dealing him at the deadline. The other club would only have him for a coupe of months and couldn't get the picks with a QO. Might as well hang onto him at that point unless they're out of the race. If they're going to deal him the time to do it is now (but only for top value). His value would be twice what it would be at the deadline and you might be able to upgrade 2 or three positions.

Agree 100% on your last point.

If Reds can't agree on a LTC with Bailey, they should immediately market him for trade and try and get a substantial return. Who knows if they will, but I would try.

But I doubt this happens. Reds have designs on contending. So if no LTC I expect a one-year deal, no immediate trade, possibly a deadline trade if a good offer, or a sandwich pick.

    Tanaka a Yankee, per Rosenthal.

    7/$155 million.

    I'm glad he's not a Cub.
