I agree with this. I thought the same about Volquez. If he is in their rotation then it knocks them down at least one notch.

    He is subtraction by addition

    ::knocks on wood::

Volquez goes on to pitch 3 shutouts against the Reds on his way to a finishing third in the Cy Young vote behind Kershaw and Wainwright.

Personally, I'm STUNNED that anybody has the Reds not first. I can see not ranking them first in the NL. But the central!?! No way. If you include the pen...it's closer. Just the starters, no contest IMO.

    Reds
    Cards

    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

If they all stay healthy Reds have the best starting rotation 1-5. Cards have more depth though. Pirates are third

Wainright is better than Cueto by quite a bit
    Latos is better than Miller
Bailey may be better than Wacha, but I could see Wacha being better this year
    Garcia is better than Leake
Lynn has a ton more experience than Cingrani, but Cingrani is more talented

The reason I don't rank the Reds 1st is because a.) Wainwright is a true ace, which is something I feel like the Reds have been lacking, but have made up for in depth and b.) I do not even remotely trust the health of Cueto.

I am very negative about Cueto's health.

i think that the ranking is:

    1. Reds/ Cardinals
    3. Pirates
    4. Cubs
    5. Brewers

With the Reds and Cards, whichever staff stays healthier would be the one on top.

I was mocked when I brought up that sentiment during the season, but the one thing that gives me hope is that it wasn't arm trouble. Still, I am quite concerned overall. It's something of an elephant in the room.

If Cueto is healthy and remains so, I can't see this staff being anything but the best in the division. The Pirates have to do it all again to make me a believer. The Cards are almost as good if Garcia stays healthy, but he never does and Wacha and Miller aren't sure things either.

A healthy Cueto, another year of near excellence from Latos, a more experienced and slightly calmer Cingrani, and Leake doing what Leake does....I will take that staff and be happy.

Same happened to me! I completely agree with your sentiment. I understand it was not an arm issue, but he tried coming back on three occasions and the exact same thing happened every time. I will be negative until proven positive.
