Figures the Cardinals would be involved, the Reds always get stuff from them.

Exactly what I was thinking. I read it and thought, "Ugh. Of course it involves the Cardinals."

Nevertheless, an interesting article. Thanks to Randy for posting.

Looking at the photo of Ruehlmann, Dale and DeWitt, I noticed that the new owners bought the club for $7MM with DeWitt having paid $4.6MM in 1962. The franchise today is worth well over $500MM.

If I recall correctly Jose Rijo was the first to wear 27 for quite sometime.

Nice article Randy. I used to wonder the same thing.

Jose Rijo was the first player I remember wearing #27 for Cincinnati.

Others who have worn #27 since then (off the top of my head):
    William Bergolla
    Jeff Keppinger
    Drew Sutton
    Scott Rolen (of course)

There are 27 outs in a baseball game.

There are 27 bones in the hand.

    That's all I got.

Re: Ever wonder why Mr. Red wore #27?

Although the following has nothing to do with the question of why Mr. Red wore no. 27 I once read an interview of Pete Rose where Rose said that in his first spring training he was issued no. 27, which he regarded as being a number given to players who were not going to stick with the major league club. He learned he had " made the show" when he came to his locker shortly before the team was to leave spring training for Cincinnati and discovered he had been given a jersey with no. 14.

I suspect if that logo were brought back, the team would produce a dozen different iterations of it to encourage multiple purchases and to reflect all of the uniform iterations possible nowadays. (Red cap, white jersey; Red cap with black bill, red jersey; Black cap, white jersey; etc.) That might be worse than not bringing it back.

I read the thread title, thought "no" and then clicked on it anyway.

When I was a kid and saw The Mr. Red logo, Jose Rijo was 4 years old.
