Oh, haha, thought maybe they signed a minor league deal with Scott Sizemore the former Tiger/A's IF utility player. Wouldn't be a bad player for the Reds IMO.

The clause isn't too surprising or rare. It just makes it harder for the Reds to assume they can stash him in AAA even if he has a decent spring.

tells you how old I am - my mind flashed to them kicking the tires on Ted Sizemore

Thought I'd post something about him for you babes in the woods

    TED SIZEMORE

He was the Rookie of the Year in 1969 with the Dodgers, and played a scrappy second base for the Cardinals and the Phillies after that, but his Cubs career was rather brief.

In 1979 he played most of the year for the Cubs. On August 2nd of that year he was involved in a little altercation at a Montreal restaurant. Cubs management treated the players to dinner that night, but they put a limit of two bottles of wine per table. Sizemore was incensed at the limit, and stormed out of the restaurant. He complained on the bus ride the next day, and he complained on the plane ride. The Cubs traded him to the Boston Red Sox two weeks later.

When Herman Franks resigned as Cubs manager at the end of the year, one of the reasons he said he quit was because of the whiny players; specifically naming Sizemore, Bill Buckner, Barry Foote and Mike Vail.

On the other hand, Sizemore did have a great mustache.

    28 year old with a career .268/.312/.399/.712?

You could do a lot worse for a backup.

    Great reading material, thanks.

It's fun to look at who was drafted (and when, of course) and then realize "I've never even heard of that guy in the majors!" So many touted prospects and only a handful every year are going to be decent MLB players.

Looking at it as far as I did, I'm glad we drafted Bailey instead of a lot of the names some of us wanted.

True, but he was no Larry Biittner.

Larry Biitner continues in the great reds tradition of Larry Stahl and Larry Luebbers

Chris Heisey says hello .254/.308/.433/.741. As much as people complain there's just no team in baseball with guys on the bench that get on base at a .350 clip with an ops over .800. The Reds will have fine backup outfielders if one of the starters isn't getting it done. Don't get me wrong, it's not a perfect world out there but there are options.

When was the last time Heisey had a .741 OPS for a season?

Not to be a debbie downer here, but posting Chris Nelson's career line seems odd to me when he's had a .670+ OPS once in his career.

He's more of a low 600's OPS guy than low 700.

It was 2011 - a .797 OPS, bettering the .757 he put up his rookie season.

And 2011 was how long ago, LOL?

At this stage, I don't mind Heisey as an extra player to bat against lefties. In recent years, he's done well against lefties, but not righties.

My objection is to Heisey as the primary backup outfielder playing against RHP.
