Just adds to bench and depth. Walt hasn't made a splash but if they have to go to AAA for help this year there are going to be better choices than they had last year. Same with the bench - it's looking a bit better.
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

I'm with you, but this is hopefully just a minor league depth signing. That or insurance in case the BP market heats up again. Yankees still need a 2B.

Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Jack Hanahan is on notice! Let the wild sadness rumble begin for back-up CI.

What does he do differently than what Hannahan?
Maybe the plan is Phillips to shortstop if there's an injury!

    I get it.

Reds need a backup shortstop but Nelson really isn't a shortstop.

Reds need offense for the bench but Nelson hasn't hit well in a few years.

    Makes perfect sense, LOL.

Sorry, Red Van Hot already made these points, I now see. Good post RVH.

The Yankees signed Brian Roberts. Not saying this means they don't need a second baseman though. Just saying.
    Huh? Huh-uh. Oh yeah, uh-huh.

Lifetime OPS against LHP is .729. Schumaker lifetime OPS against RHP is .752. Platoon? Phillips going somewhere?

23 posts and no jokes about 2 year contracts? Really? Folks are slipping.

    "Meh."

"Go ahead and print the World Series tickets."

"I'm fine with this so long as he reports to spring training in the best shape of his life."

Or perhaps a tweet from C. Trent -- "Nelson career OPS .712, BP last season .706."

Nelson did play short primarily through AA and a few games in AAA the last few years, including 40 in 2011 and 52 in 2010. Walt may think he's a capable backup SS.

Heck of an endorsement for a SS. AA and 2011.

A backup shortstop. He played there for years.

That's what I'm hoping. He won't out-walk Votto, but he does seem to have a decent bat, if not a lot of pop.

If he can play a competent SS, I'm all for him to be on the 25-man.

Oh man, he's asking for it from BP.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
