    podcast is already up

Votto emphasized that his knee wasn't trustworthy all year last year.

He's training like he was prior to last offseason which was a rehab oriented offseason.

His knee is in great shape.

He may have just had a down year, but he basically has established that it was his knee.

He thinks Billy Hamilton has to play (sounds like he doesn't think he's really ready).

Lot's of approach oriented questions that get to the core of skill vs approach.

He goes into how he's always been able to draw a walk since he was 19. It's part of his game and he is really definite that he doesn't think it will help the team if he expands the zone. He's not going to do it.

The skill set vs. philosophy question was me. Thought it was really cool of Votto to take questions like that. Highlight of the offseason for me haha.

I tend to believe Joey when he says he wasn't 100% last year. If he is healthier a few more of those long outs will be home runs and no one will care.

Who were the other guys that he said he works out with? He said their names so fast, I couldn't catch them.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Re: Votto on WLW now

Votto being "in the best shape of his life" or, at least, "feeling a lot better with that knee than 2013" is one of the huge things to watch out for this spring, given the status quo strategy we are on. I consider the stuff from Votto last night a good sign on that front.
