Why Aren't the Reds Spending More Internationally?

I realize there is a cap now, but even before that the Reds haven't signed any big name kids like they did with Yorman and Duran since, well, Yorman and Duran.

Should there be an expectation that they land some of these players more often? The Rangers, Red Sox, Cubs and other big spenders are willing to gamble in this market, why aren't the Reds? Actually there are quite a few teams absent from this market, but some of the better run teams are definitely conspicuously present. I'd like to see the Reds at least roll the dice once every 2 years in this market.

Constante and Gonzalez may make you happy with the International market yet
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

They aren't spending more internationally partially because they've done too well. The wrongest thing in the current CBA is punishing teams that do well by cutting their allowed international spending pool. So if a small market team does everything right and builds a contender, not only is it moving down in the draft, it's also artifically prevented from spending with the non-contenders in the international market.

Even if you don't have a problem with the American pro sports habit of punishing success and rewarding failure, that's going too far.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Perhaps a lot of Chapman's bonuses came from the international scouting budget?

To an extent I stand corrected: http://redsminorleagues.com/2014/02/...onal-spending/

Although I'm focused more on the high end talent, although yet again I think edabbs noted that steroid testing has rendered a lot of these kids risky...so yeah...the reds seem to be doing what they can or what they feel they can.

Raisel Iglesias was an international signing for big money.
