    Nelson Cruz

If he decides to take a one year deal, what's the downside of signing him?

He has a good year, you give him a qualifying offer after next year and recoup the lost draft pick.

    Listened to McAlister tonight?

As for Cruz, where do they play him? Do you (or Lance) think that Walt signs Cruz and sits Ludwick? I would, but I don't think Walt would.

Yeah, I caught the 15 minutes there from 7:00-7:20 on my way to work.

And yea, I put him in LF, slot him right in between Votto-Bruce

Or do we get to start the Jay Bruce in Center chat again!

    Backup shortstop.
    No Victims, by me

    The rest is drama.

You are asking for a downside?

He continues to be not good (sub 2 WAR) and the Reds lose their first round pick. Oh, and he will cost about 7-10 million. (My guess)

Sounds like a legit downside to me.

No, I don't want Dante Bichette part II, especially not when the cost is a high draft pick.
The Sox traded Bullfrog the only player they've got for Shottenhoffen. Four-eyes Shottenhoffen a utility infielder. They've got a whole team of utility infielders.

Assume I didn't listen to Lance, living in the hinterlands and all. What was said?

Walt's already said he isn't signing him because he doesn't want to give up the draft pick.

As opposed to paying $7.5 for Ludwick, who was a 1.9 WAR in his 2012 year, and -0.9 last year

That's 24th overall. He hits 30 HR's, knocks in 100, you get the draft pick back after he turns down a qualifying offer after the offseason

Where are we getting this information that Cruz will suddenly hit 30 HR and assuredly decline a QO after 2014?

Faulty premise. You did ask for downside, but you want to hear none of it.

Ludwick was injured last year, as you know.

It's not a choice between Ludwick and Cruz. Ludwick is under contract. It's not like the Reds can just tell Ludwick, "sorry we're not going to pay you this year. We're going to take the money we were going to give you and give it to Nelson Cruz instead."

How does that promise 30 HR in 2014?

Not to mention that giant elephant in the corner.

What is your downside to signing him, I'm intrigued.

No you are wrong. It is the 20th pick right now, He hasn't hit 30/100 ever, and he has a known recurring injury history. But hey...

No way in heck does Cruz turn down another QO.
