I'm not saying this to get blasted but I probably will due to my screen name:
Are the Reds better off without BA? I know he's not an ace pitcher by any stretch but I'm thinking of the innings eater he is.
Can Cingrani (sp?) go 200 innings?
Will Cueto be able to go 200 innings, he didn't last year.
Latos and Baily are fairly safe bets as is Leake but 1 guy goes out and if Chapman goes to the rotation will the bullpen be able to cover? Will Chapman be able to stretch out mid season and be effective?
From the outside looking in I don't see much in the way of depth after the current starters. Please help me see what I'm missing - thanks.
Reds are tight with dollars and can't afford to pay FA prices to an older innings eater pitcher like Arroyo, who would be the sixth starter. They have a great young prospect at AA, Stephenson, and bunch of AAA starters like Wang, Holmberg (good prospect) and others in addition to their regular starting five.
But no doubt the Reds will need good health in their rotation.

Yea, we're pretty much living on a prayer that all the projected 5 starters will be healthy all year. Not much ML ready depth at the minors now. I guess Holmberg or Wang would get the call, but they are probably a pretty big dropoff.
I do think a lot of Holmberg, but he may not be ready in 2014.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Dodgers are now in on Arroyo. He would be the 5th starter for them. The Dodgers seem to have unlimited money and could give him a three year deal and not bat an eye.

Dodger Stadium would fit Bronson well. Good luck to him.
The Reds will regret not offering Arroyo a 2 year deal.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/0...or-arroyo.htmlThe Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and Orioles are the three finalists to land free agent starter Bronson Arroyo, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). Among those clubs, the Diamondbacks are "slight favorites" to lock up the soon-to-be 37-year-old.

If that's the case, then they had a whole bunch of bad happen to them (injuries/crazy bad luck) and I would think that he'd be on the low end of regrets.
And I like Arroyo.
I just don't think he's going to be the difference between what we've seen the last few years and the promise land. Mike Leake can give them similar production for less.
I like my odds with Bailey, Latos, Cueto, Cingrani, and Leake (and some solid AAAA pitchers down in LOU and maybe even a Robert Stephenson cameo if we get some luck).

THURSDAY: Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that Arroyo's camp has lowered the asking price to the two-year, $22MM range, and the Orioles and Diamondbacks are "definitely pushing" for the veteran righty.
