I don't know about you guys but I'd like my second best hitter to be at least better than my best hitter.

Who the one's doing the rating?

That seems to be almost as pertinent as absolutes about what is what and who is what.

Votto: Highly rated just came off of a lesser year when compared to his typical year

Phillips: In decline but his fall is overexaggerated. Honestly right now underrated on RZ. You'd think he was near death and ready to fall off a cliff by some accounts here.

Bruce: Rated about right, with still more potential improvement in the future. Not on Vottos level but there's more to offense than just OBP. Someone needs to have pop and the ability to translate the walks into runs. Bruce wouldn't have had as many RBI is not for Choo in 2013, but Choo wouldn't have had as many runs scored if not for Bruce. It's a two way street. Walks and HBP usually only begin the process. The buck has to stop somewhere. WOuld I like to see less K and more OBP sure but a guy that has at least league average OBP and plus pop with top notch D is not a detriment or someone you refer to with oh sorry to say......

It will be interesting to see if there's any impact to losing Ryan Hanigan, one of the better catchers in baseball, but the Reds retain an elite infield with Zack Cozart at short, Brandon Phillips at second and Joey Votto at first, and Jay Bruce is among the best in the game in right field. While there are questions about Billy Hamilton's ability to replace Shin-Soo Choo in the leadoff spot, he's a sure upgrade in center field. The Reds also have a pitching staff that fields well.

Overall, there's a lot to like about a team that finished second last season on the park-adjusted defensive efficiency scale.
Honorable mention: Angels, Tigers, Cardinals, Nationals, Dodgers, A's, Rockies.

Call him Booby if you want, but he'll be receiving $1.2 million checks once a year for 35 straight years after his retirement. I'd say the Mets are the boobies.

Did that one guy with crazy insane expectations for bruce who would then meltdown when Bruce couldn't meet the insane expectations just change his screen name and/or start a new account under a new name? Or is this another new entrant to the ever metasticizing hate-Bruce club? Time to dust off the ignore button, I guess.

Here is an inconvenient truth: Bruce will not hit for average or get on base at a high clip even in his prime years.
I don't think many power hitters have high OBPs. It's not like he's Mark Reynolds or something.
They don't think it be like it is but it do.

Jay Bruce will be entering the prime years for a slugger coming up this season. He's been a very good outfielder his entire career.

I'm thinking this year Bruce will be a top 10-15 offensive player in the league.

I think those are solid expectations. All in all, Jay Bruce is not one of the problems on this team. He's the best option at cleanup, outside of Votto, of course.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I think that person is posting under a different name. Same crazy talk, though.

Count me as one who doesn't see all the dislike for Jay Bruce. We should be so lucky if Jay Bruce is the blame for this team's woes.

Relax ... pitchers and catchers report in eight days!
Opinions are like belly buttons. Everybody has one, and they don't want someone else's shoved into their face.

I agree, but I actually think he fits the typical 'clean-up' hitter profile a little better than Votto does mostly due to their approach. No doubt Votto is a better hitter, but realistically speaking you want your best hitter sporting the #2 spot.

Votto at 2 and Bruce at 4 would be the best way to go with this team, but I doubt it ever comes to fruition.

Taking an objective view of a certain player = Disliking that player

Yes, it is like last season when people would complain about Choo's numbers vs lefties. Despite his OBP still being second best on team against lefties.

The best way to improve offense is get better performance at below league average positions, not to ask your good players to be even better.
