I voted Langfield because I think he's been overlooked to this point.

I went with Daal and Thompson again, same reasons as before, pure upside at SS.

I liked Langfield more than Moscot, but shoulder injuries, and that he had surgery, leaves me waiting to see him healthy.

Well scratch HRod off the list - he's been designated to make room for Brett Marshall

Is he necessarily gone? I kind of doubt anyone else is going to stick him on their 40-man.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Got to looking closer at this SS Hector Vargas. He's a 19 y/o for 2014 but last year in the DSL at 18 he hit .327 in 226 ABs, walked 24 times with only 18 KOs and stole 21 bases. He's 6-2 170 and has hellacious range. I know the DSL isn't a great league but laws, laws, those are some fantastic numbers for ANY league. The high walks and low strikeouts with the high contact rate? Get him over here!

If he clears waivers, I'd assume HRod is then a free agent and can sign a minor league contract someplace.

When a player clears waivers, the team may release him or outright him to the minors. A player may be outrighted to the minors without his permission only once in his career. After that, the player has the choice of accepting his assignment to the minors or electing free agency. Because Rodriguez has never been outrighted off a 40-man roster before, the Reds are allowed to keep him in the minors for the duration of the entire season. However, if he is added to the roster again, he can't be sent to the minors without his permission.
