UPDATE: Reds & Homer Bailey agree on 6 yr / $105 Million Contract

    6 Years/100MM

    Per Buster.

EDIT: Actually from Paul Hoyne the Cleveland beat writer discussing how this deal affects their guy. Apologies if this ends up being a false alarm.

Heard Reds getting close to 6-year deal in $100 million range with Homer Bailey. Bound to influence Indians talks with Justin Masterson.

This is huge. With Cueto, Leake and Latos all FA after 2015 (if they exercise Johnny's option which is almost certain unless his health completely goes to heck) getting Bailey inked LT is a major step to keeping this train on the track. With Cingrani and Bob Steve coming, the Reds can probably keep a top rotation in place by re-signing just 1 of the remaining three (2 would be a nice plus). Finding a fifth starter from the guys on the farm or a less expensive vet is doable. I really hope this deal gets done.
No - I am not from State Farm!

Darn that Walt and his penny-pinching bosses.

How does one hand out a 100 MM extension while asleep?

    That's a noodle scratcher.

I never, ever, will get upset about the Reds extending a home grown pitcher who has proven himself to be a top of the rotation arm.
This is the ol Left Hander rounding third and heading for home.

    Still inclined to believe it.

Just with guys like Buster, it's usually gospel.

Re: Bailey and Reds nearing deal- 6y/100m

6 years makes me a little squeemish with any pitcher, not just one with a history of injury.

I did like Walt's mention that the national TV contract will help with payroll going up next year in 2015. That should help sign Latos or Cueto or Leake to an extension as well.

Homer Bailey, Reds Progressing Toward Deal

By Charlie Wilmoth [February 16 at 6:59pm CST]

Homer Bailey and the Reds are "getting close" on a six-year deal worth around $100MM, Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer tweets. Earlier today, ESPN's Jim Bowden reported Reds GM Walt Jocketty had said he was hopeful the two sides could reach a deal. Bailey is represented by Excel Sports Management.

Bailey is eligible for free agency after the season, and as a relatively young pitcher coming off a strong season in Cincinnati (209 innings, 3.49 ERA, 8.6 K/9, 2.3 BB/9), he figures to be in line for a large contract once he does. Bailey has asked for $11.6MM in his last year of arbitration eligibility, with the Reds filing for $8.7MM. He made $5.35MM in 2013.
