Yorktown is one of my favorite places. Battlefields are just a couple of minutes from the York River. It's a beautiful spot that also has a small beach that not too many people know about...yet. Decent pub or two down there, as well.

Great list, as it doubles for home bases for seeing many of the other "wonders" previously posted.

Yorktown is enjoyable. I like the Colonial Parkway that leads from Jamestown through Williamsburg to Yorktown. It is a nice drive and you get to travel from 1607 to 1781 with a stop in 1765-1776 in between.

This area doesn't have the reputation or the chops as a craft beer area (yet) like Oregon, but there are some places you can have a nice beverage. Seven off the top of my head:

    Christian Moerlien (OTR)
Rivertown (Lockland) -- My personal fave
Cellar Dwellar (@ Valley Vineyards, Morrow)
    Listermann/Triple Digit (Norwood)
    50 West
    Blank Slate
Yellow Springs (Which is nicely convenient to another site worth seeing in Ohio... Clifton Gorge)
When all is said and done more is said than done.

The Rose Bowl (both the stadium and the game)
    Catalina Island
    San Diego Zoo
and of course the 405/101 interchange
