    Marlins put in their place

    http://msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/stor...marlins-030714

So the Marlins got pissed that the Red Sox sent out the B squad the other day because they jacked up prices on their fans who wanted to see Big Papi and Co. Red Sox GM apologized, but here is what Red Sox owner John Henry's blasted out via twitter a few hours ago:

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

You gotta have some real stones to jack up prices for a spring training game. Even if they doubled the normal ticket price and 5000 people showed up, what would they stand to gross, $100,000...if that?
I have no idea how much these tix cost or what attendance is like, but jeez, what a pointless shake down.
(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

Would never fly in Arizona. Everything is in a 30 mile radius. Agree that it seems pointless for a spring training game

Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Nice deflection. Doesn't change the fact that the Marlins were not wrong with regard to the Red Sox line-up and spring training rules regarding same.

While it was very funny, it was a very un-CEO thing to do, especially on twitter. I would have had someone else not affiliated with the team tweet it, the retweet it. This will only make dealing with the Marlins that much tougher for the Red Sox.

They were wrong, but that's a pretty stupid rule, in my opinion.

Spring training should be just that, a place for teams to train. Teams should be able to field whatever team they want, whatever team they feel they need to to get ready for the regular season.

This represents why I don't like spring training in a Florida anymore. It's a huge business now, and taken as seriously as the regular season. I loved it when I was a kid, and everyone was relaxed and just working in getting into shape. That's almost completely gone now.

Their opening day payrolls more than doubled under Henry's ownership, from about $15M in '99 to $35.5M in '01, now guess what their 2013 opening day payroll was 12 years worth of inflation later?

The original tweet would be funny if it didn't come from the owner of the most annoying franchise and fan base in professional sports.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

Understood, actually I thought it was stupid, not even so much because he's an owner, but because he was already like the billionth person to make a variation of that joke since this came out. I'm fine with the Marlins complaining to MLB and with the Red Sox being fined, and I'm even okay with them making a few extra bucks off people who aren't aware enough to realize that Big Papi isn't going on any 3 hour bus rides, but how the heck could they go to the media with this and not see themselves as the beyond obvious punchline coming?
