The 22-year-old lefthander (RZ prospect #22) stands 3rd in the Midwest League in Ks and second in WHIP, one spot ahead of teammate Nick Travieso. The WHIP is especially encouraging, given the Venezuelan's recent proclivity for the base on balls. He's given up only 35 hits (and 24 walks) in 61.1 IP, posting an ERA of 2.79.

Also notable on an unexciting day in which only three teams played (Pensacola was rained out), only one (Dayton) won, and Michael Beltre didn't even reach base (Rojos were off) . . .

    Hitters

Beau Amaral, Bake: 2-4, 3B, R. The triple was his 7th, combining his Dayton and Bakersfield numbers. Seven would tie for the California League lead.

Kyle Waldrop, Bake: 2-5, HR (5).

Juan Silva, Bake: 2 BB, 2 SB (28). Leads the Cal League in stolen bases. The guy he replaced, Junior Arias, has another 8.

    Jesse Winker, Bake: 3 BB.

    Joey Votto, Lou: 1-3.

Bryan Anderson, Lou: HR (8), 2 RBI.

    Felix Perez, Lou: HR (9).

    Sebastian Elizalde, Day: 2-5, RBI.

    Jamodrick McGruder, Day: 1-3, 3B, 2 BB, R.

Tanner Rahier, Day: 1-3, 3B, BB.

    Avain Rachal, Day: 2B, R, 2 RBI, SB (4).

Is this Votto guy any good? Haven't seen his name in the player of the day reports before.

(Just kidding. He's a good prospect.)

Solid eye, god bat, but won't drive in many runs.

    bullpen or whatever
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

He is being rushed. They start him off at AAA and there is already talk of a promotion.

I just wanted to thank everyone who does this. This thread is, for me, a must-visit every morning. I really enjoy following these players on a day-to-day basis. Thank you.

I think we should trade him to the Astros for a reliever.

He's OK, but I think this Elizalde kid has a better future.

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day (2014)

Monday, June 9: Daniel Wright, Bakersfield . . . 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. The only blemish on his night was a harmless 6th-inning single. It was the second straight domination for the fast-rising righthander from Tennessee. Last year, after being drafted in the 10th round out of Arkansas State, Wright did little to distinguish himself, giving up 57 hits in 42.2 IP with a 5.91 ERA. This year, he pitched his way out of Dayton at 2.06, and in his second and third Cal League starts has given up one run, walking nobody in 15 innings.

Also notable on a day in which Pensacola swept a pair, another starter put up zeroes, and two outfielders combined to go 8 for 8 . . .

    Hitters

Kyle Waldrop, Bake: 4-4, 2 2B, 2 R, SB 11. Back up to .361, the scorching 22-year-old lefty has 16 hits in his last 6 games.

Juan Silva, Bake: 3B, BB, R, SB (29).

    Zach Vincej, Bake: 2-5, RBI.

    Juan Duran, Pen: 2-3, 2B, HR (8), 3 RBI.

Devin Lohman, Pen: 2-2, 2B, BB, 3 RBI.

    Ray Chang, Pen: 2-2, 2B, 2 BB, 3 R.

    Juan Silverio, Pen: 2-2, R, 2 RBI.

    Rey Navarro, Pen: 2-3, HR (8), BB, 2 R.

    Steve Selsky, Pen: 2-4, 2B, HR (1), 2 R, 2 RBI.

    Rossmel Perez, Pen: 2-4, R.

    Josh Fellhauer, Pen: 2 BB, 2 R.

Travis Mattair, Pen: 1-3, R, RBI.

    Yorman Rodriguez, Pen (2 G): 4-7, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB (5).

Dario Saunders, Rojos: 4-4, BB, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB. The 21-year-old CF, small and speedy, hails from the Bahamas.

Michael Beltre, Rojos: 2B, BB, RBI. Fell under .500.

Anthony Rubicondo, Rojos: 2-4, 2B, RBI.

    Raul Wallace, Reds: 2-3, 3B, R, 2 RBI.

Ruben Gotay, Lou: HR (12), 2 RBI.

Tucker Barnhart, Lou: 1-2, 2B, RBI.

Neftali Soto, Lou: 1-3, 2B, R. Has made an impact in the Bats' lineup.

    Joey Votto, Lou: 1-3, R.

Jason Bourgeois, Lou: 2 BB, SB (7).

    Pitchers

    Michael Lorenzen, Pen: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. ERA 2.41. Threw 64 pitches. Southern League all-star hasn't given up a run over 10 IP in his last 2 games.

Mat Latos, Lou: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K. Had tossed 82 pitches when the rain came. Threw another 18 inside.

    Dan Langfield, Day: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Stretching him out?

    Sandy Lugo, Rojos: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K.

    Marcos Encarnacion, Reds: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K.

    Mikey O'Brien, Pen: 5 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

    Drew Hayes, Pen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

    Carlos Contreras, Pen: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.

    Carlos Gonzalez, Bake: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K, Sv (14). ERA soars to 0.59.

    . . . .

    Record for the day: 5-2

Record for the year: 139-135 (includes the 2 DSL teams, 4-12 between them)

Re: Minor-League Player of the Day (2014)

Tuesday, June 10: Wendolyn Bautista, DSL Reds . . . 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K. At 21, playing in the Dominican Summer League, this won't put him immediately on the coveted Redszone prospect list. On the other hand, he shares my birthday, separated by a mere 41 years. (Slow day, OK?)

Also notable on a wildly unexciting date when Dayton was rained out, Louisville lost, and Pensacola and Bakersfield were off . . .

Dario Saunders, Rojos: 1-2, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 SB (5). In the last 2 games, the Bahamian outfielder has reached base 8 times in 9 plate appearances.

    Erick Gabo, Reds: 2-4, 2 2B, R, RBI.

Raul Wallace, Reds: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 R. The 18-year-old outfielder hits in the three hole.

    Jesus Roman, Reds: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

    Eriberto Garcia, Reds: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, Sv (2). The 18-year-old's save ended the Reds' 6-game losing streak.

    Thomas Neal, Lou: 2-4, 2B, R.

Neftali Soto, Lou: 2B, BB, R, RBI.

    Felix Perez, Lou: 1-2, RBI.

Kris Negron, Lou: 1-3, BB, R, SB (5).

Brett Marshall, Lou: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K. Threw 53 pitches in his second rehab appearance, nearly half of them balls. Has walked 8 batters in 3.2 IP.

    Ryan Dennick, Lou: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K.

    Jumbo Diaz, Lou: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. ERA 1.52.

It's a complete joke at this point Winker is not in AA. I hope it does not negatively effect his development. This is ridiculous.
