Good for Wacha that it's not a cuff or a labrum. Brandon McCarthy recovered pretty well from a scapula fracture. It doesn't happen often, so beware small sample.
This is more on the rumor side, but the Reds are currently down a bench player right now. In interviews Price has intimated that the ideal person would be able to play 3B/1B and be more comfortable as a bench player. He said they would not prefer Lutz or another prospect to come up and sit the bench.
Now, Soto coming up is possible, and may still yet be the choice. However, each of the beat writers have said the Reds seem to be shopping for this type of player. So, I have been thinking about those guys, and who may be available, and one name kind of came to mind.
Keep in mind, the Reds aren't shopping for a star here, they are looking for this role to be a bench player.
Jordan Pacheco was waived by Colorado in early June and claimed by Arizona long before the Reds would of had a chance at him. He has played 3B/1B/C, and would allow the Reds the flexibility they seek in resting Votto/Frazier.
I'm not saying the Reds have interest in Pacheco, but I think he's the type of player they may be seeking for this position.
I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher.
Cardinals Designate Pete Kozma For Assignment
By Jeff Todd [June 25, 2014 at 10:23am CDT]
The Cardinals have designated shortstop Pete Kozma for assignment, tweets Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. Presumably, the move is related to the club’s call-up of young pitcher Marco Gonzalez, who will need a 40-man spot.
Kozma, 26, played a key role for the club in its 2012 NLCS run, taking over late in the year for the injured Rafael Furcal and posting a .952 OPS, and served as the team’s primary shortstop in 2013. He could not sustain the 2012 magic, however, as he slashed just .217/.275/.273 over 448 plate appearances last year. On the other hand, Kozma rated out as one of the most productive shortstops in the game on the defensive side of the ledger.
St. Louis ultimately went in a different direction, adding free agent Jhonny Peralta to take over up the middle. Apart from a brief call-up, Kozma has spent the year at Triple-A, where he owns a .234/.341/.372 triple-slash in 223 plate appearances.

Diamondbacks Release J.J. Putz
By Steve Adams [June 27, 2014 at 7:48am CDT]
JUNE 27: The D’Backs have released Putz, according to the team’s transactions page on MLB.com. They’re still on the hook for the remaining $3.86MM on his contract, and he is now free to sign with any team. Given Putz’s track record and his solid strikeout, ground-ball and swinging-strike rates, I’d imagine he and his agents at LSW Baseball will have multiple interested parties.

The A’s announced (on Twitter) that they have designated left-hander Jeff Francis for assignment and activated fellow lefty Eric O’Flaherty from the disabled list.
The 33-year-old Francis appeared in nine games for the A’s (all relief appearances) and yielded nine runs in 13 1/3 total innings with a 10-to-3 K/BB ratio. The longtime Rockies hurler began the year with the Reds but was claimed off waivers by Oakland back in May. Once a mainstay in Colorado’s rotation, Francis has seen his stock drop since his peak years in 2006-07. The former No. 9 overall pick in the draft has a career 4.95 ERA with 6.0 K/9, 2.7 BB/9 and a 44.6 percent ground-ball rate in 1267 1/3 innings.
