That's pretty good considering all the rain.

Oh, I get it, it's funny because ... soccer. MLS ranks 3rd in the U.S. for pro team sports average attendance (behind only the NFL and NBA). I suppose it would rank 4th if we include D1 college football. Yeah, it has the advantage of being outdoors over the NHL and NBA, but more is more.

It's also the 9th best attended soccer league on the planet, ahead of Brazil, Portugal and Turkey and almost dead even with France and the Netherlands. If you want to knock it for not being the absolute apex of the soccer playing world, go ahead, but it's doing pretty well for itself.

NASCAR isn't a team sport? I'm pretty sure they get more attendance than everybody else.

Nascar isn't even a sport. Its a bunch of grown men driving real fast in an oval pretending that they are being chased by the police while transporting a trunk full of moonshine. It's worse than watching civil war reenactments. At least those guys try and be authentic historically. Nascar? No one is allowed to shoot at them. The drive on pristine roadways. Everyone slows down if there is even a hint of a wreck, and no one ever ramps a creek or small river. Heck, they get pissed if someone even dents their car....

Moral of the story? Maybe sometimes attendance says more about the attendees than it does the event.

I am really surprised by those numbers. It seems like every home game has a high threat of rain or it rains all day. I had probably been to 5 games at this point last year, but only 1 so far this year. Weather has highly conflicted with my free nights.

Job is easier when you've got a good team.

That very certainly helps. But pre-BCast and BCast is like night and day. All kinds of media ads, many different ticket packages, a very active and flexible ticket discounting, and a very active sales force. Also good with social media. I know you don't see it from Boston but it is markedly different from previous regimes.

Ya hard to extrapolate too much from just 18 games. Attendance will be highly dependent on who we played. For instance this year we have already played 3 games at home vs StL and Pittsburgh. Last year at this time we had not played them at all at home.

Actually, you can see it from here. Castellini has done a quality job with the franchise. The gang clearly shoots straight these days.
