No, I'm not saying there is absolutely no chance he can be a No. 5 starter in the Majors. I'm simply saying that after 3 starts at Louisville, I'm discouraged/disappointed and I would bet Holmberg will have a difficult time of ever being a starter in the Majors. I'm not completely writing him off; I would just say it's unlikely we're looking at a future member of the Reds' rotation here. He reminds me of the guy we got from the Phillies for Kyle Lohse, Matt Maloney.

You say you aren't saying it, but after three starts you are basically saying that you have a difficult time believing he will ever be a starter in the Majors. That is basically saying it.

I'm not sure what we're expecting out of Holmberg anyway. Personally, I think he's going to be a rich-man's Matt Maloney and will be pleasantly surprised if the Reds get more than that from him.

That said, I'm not down on him after 3 AAA starts, either.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. -- Terrance Mann (Field of Dreams)

I think he could be a swingman/5/6th inning reliever. But he has to get his command back that he reportedly had in the low minors. He didn't have it last year. Hasn't had it this year.

    I'm seeing a poor man's Matt Maloney.

I'm not mincing my words in the least. I'm surprised you feel the need to read between the lines when I'm making it crystal clear for you. I would bet against Holmberg ever being a member of the Reds' rotation (not counting spot starts) but I'm not completely ruling it out.

There is a giant delta between "I would bet against something" and "There is no possible way this could happen."

And what were your feelings on him on March 30th?
