Sean Marshall activated; Curt Partch optioned to Louisville

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/4115
Reds activated LHP Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled list.
The 31-year-old southpaw was deemed good to go after appearing in two games on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. He'll work in a setup capacity in front of interim closer Jonathan Broxton. Apr 19 - 12:12 PM

Simon is going no where this year, he'll supply back up starting if needed once Latos gets back (if ever).

The relivers that go down will be those with options.

Let me be the first to say I'd rather have kept Partch over Ondrusek, but options and stuff matter I guess. Personally, I like Partch better than Christiani as well.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Partch looks like Todd Coffey reincarnated to me (on the stat sheet--not the scale). Not a bad guy to have around.

I like Christiani and Partch but I am puzzled a bit, I guess. I see Christiani as maybe becoming another Sam LeCure type. His ceiling. Partch could be much more than that, imo. But, both of them need more tuning so I'll trust the staff made the decision on what is best for the player and the team with all the angles (options etc).

Don't get this. I would have sent out Christiani or waived Ondrusek before sending out Partch. Probably won't matter in the long run but you still have to wonder what their thinking is?

It's all about preserving depth though.
We're paying Logan for this season whether he's released or not.
The 12th man in the bullpen really doesn't make that much of a difference (Logan vs anyone else)

They said in one of the games that Price really was high on Christinani, and this was his year to step forward and seize a ML job. Not sure I am that enthusiastic about him,but I trust Price's judgment.
I think Partch has a lot of potential too, but he needs to be in AAA, working on consistent control, not rotting at the end of the Reds' pen.

I can buy the depth thing now, but later on in the season the Reds can't continue to keep Ondrusek on the roster when there are better arms being shipped to AAA.

Walt put his neck out there for Logan for absolutely zero reason, IMO. He's going to get much more slack than some other bubble guys.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

I guess I'm ok with Logan now, because I don't see an obviously better arm trapped in AAA due to Logan being on the roster now.

Not trying to argue, but who is potentially better in AAA at midseason? Just curious what you think, I am not going to argue.. I guess I am just not that impressed with AAA.
Other than maybe Jumbo Diaz. He could potentially be better later.
Again, I like PArtch as a prospect, but I think he needs all the AAA seasoning he can get this year.

I don't know. I don't know if Diaz is a prospect or just AAAA fodder.

I have never been enamored with Ondrusek. I was curious when the Reds gave him a contract instead of going year to year with him. To me he is a meh relief pitcher, one you hope you can do better than, but also a guy who is going to be the 6th or 7th man in the pen. I would like to see someone with more upside in that 6th or 7th man roll, but Logan isn't going to kill the team. I

i like Ondrusek's stuff more than most. Christiani comes in and throws nothing but 92-93 mph fastballs. I think he's thrown maybe two sliders, total.

At least Logan has more than a FB.

Partch should have been kept instead of Christiani, Ondrusek, and possibly Hoover (for now). Hoover's lack of control is getting bothersome and he may need to "work on it" somewhere other than tight games at the MLB level. The worst bullpen in MLB? Really?

Btw...walks were the reason they chose to send Partch down instead of Chrisitani. That being said, I would've kept him too.
