I find the notion that Harper faked an injury to avoid having to face Fernandez a ludicrous proposition. The guy lives, sleeps and breathes baseball. He epitomizes a "gamer" for this generation.

He's also one of the biggest narcissists in the game. If there's someone that might care enough about his own stats to do something like that, it would probably be him.

Given how big an ego the guy has, I don't find it ludicrous. I'm skeptical, but it's not at all ludicrous.

On its face it seems like one of the more ludicrous propositions about one of the game's young stars.

That not a nice thing to say about me.

Bryce Harper is faking another injury. Sitting out today so he could avoid facing Andrew Cashner. He was so scared he faked an injury yesterday and left that game early. - Tom Boswell, probably.

Boswell got those quotes from his team mates is my guess, he's not really known for being a combative writer nor a guy that spouts off unfounded things of that ilk.

Haven't you ever heard of the saying "don't let facts get in the way of a good argument"?

    Well. Don't.

Newspaper guys report, Boswell has more credibility with me than you. That's obvious.

Harper however is not infallible to me either because he's young and has talent.

I think you missed my point. Which was don't let facts (Boswell's facts, assuming he actually got quotes from teammates) get in the way of me making a good argument.

Nationals manager Matt Williams sounded off to reporters, including MLB.comís Daniel Popper, expressing his anger over the fact that some had inferred from Williamsí comments on a radio station that Bryce Harper could be sent to the minor leagues. In a Wednesday morning radio appearance, Williams was asked if it was a stupid idea to suggest that Harper could be demoted for a week to fix his swing. Williams responded by saying it wasnít stupid ó as such tactics are often employed with struggling young talent ó but quickly followed by saying that Harperís situation was different because he is a ďspecial young player.Ē In talking with reporters Wednesday evening, Williams vented a bit, stating: ďIt [ticks] me off to even think about the fact that somebody would take a comment that I make on the radio and infer that I am thinking one way or another. Iíve had it. Ö [Harper]Ďs a very important part of our team, just like everybody else is. Do we understand each other? Itís not fair to the kid. Itís not fair to the rest of the clubhouse to even think about sending Bryce Harper to the Minor Leagues or to cause a stir. Itís unacceptable. It wonít happen.Ē

When asked if a temporary demotion for Harper was "in the realm of possibility right now," Williams answered, "I will caution everybody in this room -- the minute you think you can read my ... mind, you're sorely mistaken. It [ticks] me off to even think about the fact that somebody would take a comment that I make on the radio and infer that I am thinking one way or another. I've had it. Don't do it anymore.

It's not fair to the rest of the clubhouse to even think about sending Bryce Harper to the Minor Leagues or to cause a stir. It's unacceptable. It won't happen."

Williams should have just answered the question with a three-word response,

    "Clown question, bro."

He's a feisty dude for sure. That's the way he played the game. Seems like he won't be long for the world as a manager, but the Nats are having a good season so we shall see.

Re: Who made the BIGGER Mistake? Bryce Harper or Manager Matt Williams?

Given the context from earlier in the day (radio interview), the question posed was totally fair and for him to puff his chest to the media makes him look like an idiot, in my view.

When I heard the audio of this confrontation last night it actually made me somewhat angry. The older I get, the more I find myself really not liking coaches/managers of professional teams. Football coaches are the absolute worst. Get off your high horse, dude.

Its the manager's job to take the heat for his players. I'm sure Williams wants to ring Harper's neck more than 50% of the time. But that's not something a manager should tell the media. Williams might be a hot head but he errored on the side of the player on this one, and I'm sure they don't play gold together.
