    2014 Reds Magic Number Thread

In honor of the self proclaimed Reverse Jinx Doing the Opposite Week, I will break with my tradition and not wait for the Reds to be in first to start this year's Magic Number thread.

The Magic Number for the Reds to clinch the Central is 122!

The Magic Number for the Reds to clinch a Wild Card spot is 121! (Cardinals and Rockies are currently tied for the 2 WC slots 4 games ahead of the Reds with Miami, LA and the Nats ahead of the good guys too)

    Shortest thread ever
32 for the division, 28 for wc

So if the Reds win out their last 20, the Cardinals would need a total of 12 losses for the Reds to pass them. Of course the Reds would have beaten them 7 times so they would need to lose at least 5 more times. The Reds so have this!

26 with 15 to play. Reds will need to win out and get 8 additional losses by Cards in games not against the Reds.
24 to eliminate Pittsburgh (Wild Card Magic # too). Reds will need to win out and get 6 additional losses by Pirates in games not against the Reds.
22 to eliminate Milwaukee. Reds will need to win out and get 1 additional loss by Brewers in games not against the Reds.

Cards have 3 left with Milwaukee, none with Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh has 3 left with Milwaukee and none with St. Louis
Milwaukee has 3 left with both.

Reds have 6 with Milwaukee, 3 with Pittsburgh, 3 with the Cubs and 3 with St. Louis.
Cards have 3 left each with Mil, Colorado, Reds, Cubs and Arizona. They will have to lose at least 8 of the 12 games not vs the Reds.

Reds win takes the number to 25. St. Louis has won two straight, which makes things a tad more difficult for the Redlegs. Reds need to win their last 13 and have St. Louis go 1-12 to avoid a tie for the division.

Yep, gonna be tough. They may have to settle for a wild card.

Reds are mathematically eliminated from division race. Cards are 13 games up in the loss column with only 12 more games.

The Reds can still get the Wild Card. If they win out they will finish with 82 wins. Pitt currently has 79 wins and Milwaukee has 78. Reds magic numer is 22 to eliminate Pitt and 20 for the Brewers. To avoid a tie the Reds can not have the Pirates sweep Milwaukee,a split of the brewers - pirates three game set would help the most at the moment.
