I know after the big game people will be upset with Rocco sitting but I'm OK with giving him a rest every fifth game. If Pena and Cueto work well together I can live with it. Keeping Rocco rested won't hurt in the long run.

And Donald Lutz is going deep twice tonight.

"Nothing needs to be read into it," Price said. "The only thing is Bernadina hasn't played first base since A ball. He's been working out at it the last few days. We've had a catcher over there in Pena, who had very limited first base experience. And we have Lutz, who only played a couple of games at first base before we called him up."

    MiLB games at 1B:

    Lutz: 174
    Bernadina: 0

Price got lucky last night. There were a couple plays by Bernie that could have cost the game.

Win this game and the game on Sunday --- 4-3 road trip with that Dodger pitching --- I think most of us would have been happy with that --- got to believe they got this.

I was surprised to see that the Reds are 5-6 when Cueto pitches. That is really bad when arguably the best pitcher in the NL is on the mound.

Tonight's game marks the 1/3 point of this season. With the Padres scoring 4 runs in their game earlier today, the Reds are now tied with SD for the fewest runs scored in MLB.
Reds are averaging 3.45 runs per game. Can they pick it up in the remaining 2/3 of the season? Who knows.

Good thing you don't set the line in Vegas. It could be a bad day for the houses if you did.

Will my wife be mad when I come home late from the pub today too?

If so let me know I'll get her something to distract her from this fact

So tell me Mr. Price...IF Lutz has already started a handful of games at 1B.....where has he been playing in the minors for these last few years?

Should he not be in LF then? Playing for Ludwick or platooning with him?

Taking Mes out of the lineup certainly doesn't improve chances of winning.

    Re: 5/31/2014-Reds-Vs-Diamondbacks

Mez should not be out of the lineup for no other reason than injury. If Pena has to catch Cueto then give Mez a 1st basemans glove. They played Bernadina there without any experience whatsoever so why not Mez? You have to have his bat in this lineup especially with Votto out and Bruce struggling bigtime.

I'd have Rocco catch Cueto and put Pena at first, and Lutz in left. Reds are 5-6 in Cueto starts and 1-7 on Saturdays.
