Thursday, June 5, 2014:Minor League Updates

Dayton has picked up the suspended game from yesterday.

Dan Langfield got the ersatz start. He has pitched well for three innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run. Carlton Daal made his 23rd error on the season. Langfield has not walked a batter and has struck out three.

Dayton scored two in the top of the fourth and added a run in the top of the fifth to lead 3-1.

Ervin walked and Elizalde was hit by a pitch. A sac bunt advanced the runners and they both came home on a Jon Matthews single. In the next frame, Carlton Daal and Jamodrick McGruder singled back-to-back to place runners on the corners with nobody out. A double play ball scored Daal.

Louisville is visiting Lehigh Valley, and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Hernan Iribarren singled and scored on a Thomas Neal double. One out later, Chris Nelson's single plated Neal.

Tim Crabbe gave the runs right back in the bottom of the first, surrendering a two-run jack.

Layne Somsen allowed a run on one hit in his three innings on the mound for Dayton. He walked none and struck out two. Dragons are holding on to a slim 3-2 after seven. Scott Brattvet will pitch the eighth for Dayton.

Any idea why Guillon only lasted one inning?

The suspended game is complete. Scott Brattvet came on and allowed a run in both the 8th and 9th innings, and the Dragons fall 4-3.

Carlton Daal reached base three times - two singles and a walk.
Jon Matthews singled three times and knocked in a pair of Dragons.
    Jamodrick McGruder singled twice.

The Dragons had nine hits, all singles.

Langfield and Somsen each provided three innings of solid relief.

Louisville's 8-2 lead is down to 8-7. Time to bring Nick Howard out of the pen.

Louisville snaps a 2-2 tie in the top of the second by scoring six runs. Unfortunately, that lead is going the way of the wicked witch of the west. It's melllllttting. Tim Crabbe was yanked in the third after giving up four runs (two earned). Nick Christiani has given up three more in just 1.2 innings on the mound. An error on Hernan Iribarren (just his second on the season) allowed two of the runs to be unearned.

Costanzo doubled to start the six run inning. Tim Crabbe singled him to third. Iribarren singled in one. Ruben Gotay reached on an error to load the bases. Thomas Neal's second double of the game plated two. Felix Perez knocked another run in with a double. Chris Nelson then delivered his second two-run single of the game.

    Louisville still leads 8-7.

Pensacola has jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Daniel Corcino has allowed one hit in three innings of work. He issued one free pass and struck out three. Corcino seems to have turned a corner, hopefully. In his last three starts, he has gone at least six innings in each of them and allowed no more than one run.

Juan Duran and Chris Berset each have singled, walked and scored twice. Ray Chang has two hits and driven in three. Josh Fellhauer has delivered a two-run single. Steve Selsky raised his average to .311 by singling in his only official plate appearance. He was also plunked. Presumably, for making the AS squad.

The DSL Reds came up short once again. 5-3 was the score this time. All five runs were unearned, courtesy of five errors.

All three DSL pitchers exited the game with the same ERA that they took the mound with - 0.00. And that's not so easy to do in a 5-3 loss.

Franklin Montilla made his second start of the summer season. His line for the year: 9IP 4H 1R 0ER 1BB 7K.
The bullpen gave up just three hits and one walk in their three innings. They were charged for four unearned runs.

Tomas De Los Santos went 2-3 and was hit by a pitch. He score once and drove a runner home. He also gunned down a runner at the plate.
Cesar Mejia (.375) singled twice and scored a run.
Erick Sabo (.313) singled, doubled and had a couple of ribbies.
Sucre Doval (.333) tripled and scored once.

Carlos Marmol takes the mound for his first appearance with the good guys. Bats lead 10-7 in the sixth.

Man, I used to think that guy was practically impossible to hit.

Louisville has definitely brought the lumber tonight, adding two more in the sixth.

Hernan Iribarren and Ruben Gotay with singles to start the frame. One out later, Felix Perez singles in a run. With his third single on the night, Chris Nelson picks up his fifth RBI. Bryan Anderson then walked to juice the bases. However, Neftali Soto, batting for Mike Costanzo, grounds into a double play.

Carlos Marmol is on the bump, making his Louisville debut.
Ex-Red, Jeremy Horst, is pitching now for the Iron Pigs.

    Bats lead 10-7.
