Official 2014 Draft Day 3 Thread

This is the Official Day 3 Thread.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...s-and-reaction

Notable Names to Watch on Saturday

With 10 rounds in the books, all of the top 100 players who are going to sign have already been drafted. There are still plenty of names on that list who will likely find themselves taken in the final 30 rounds on Saturday, but there's no shot they take a deal.

Regardless, these are the best players still available for day three of the 2014 MLB draft:

x-Jacob Bukauskas, RHP, Stone Bridge HS (Virginia)

Bukauskas has said all spring that he wants to attend North Carolina next year, even sending a letter to teams stating his intentions to go to college, via Baseball America. He's an undersized right-hander (5'11") who can touch triple digits with flashes of a plus breaking ball.

x-Bryce Montes de Oca, RHP, Lawrence HS (Kansas)

One of the most intriguing, albeit volatile, arms in the high school crop is Bryce Montes de Oca. He's a monster at 6'7" and 265 pounds with a fastball that is returning to its mid-90s velocity following Tommy John surgery last year. The rehab cost him any feel for off-speed stuff and command is well below-average, but he's a project that a team could try to work on.

Keith Weisenberg, RHP, Osceola HS (Florida)

Unlike Bukauskas and Montes de Oca, Weisenberg actually has physical projection left. He's 6'5" and 195 pounds with a low-90s fastball and athleticism to repeat his mechanics. The 18-year-old is committed to Stanford and could end up being a top-20 pick in three years.

Again, these arms aren't going to be taken until late on Saturday simply because it's going to be impossible to sign them. They will, barring something unforeseen, have the draft experience even though it won't be their ultimate dream.

    Benihana stated.
Aren't x-Mac Marshall and x-JJ Schwarz still out there? If so, they'd be guys I'd love to see the Reds try to sign tomorrow.

Draft heads into final day, where hidden gems are found
More than 50 of the Top 200 still available; Pujols, Peavy among late-round discoveries

    e. The group is highlighted by a trio of high school pitchers who are viewed as having strong college commitments. x-J.B. Bukauskas (No. 38) informed teams last month he intended to attend North Carolina, while Keith Weisenberg (No. 65) and x-Mac Marshall (No. 66) have been firm in their commitments to Stanford and LSU.

The rest of the remaining players ranked on the Top 100 are:

    • No. 73 Bryce Montes de Oca, a right-hander from Lawrence (Kan.) High School
    • No. 77 Cobi Johnson, a right-hander from J.W. Mitchell High School in Florida
    • No. 89 Keaton McKinney, a right-hander from Ankeny Centennial High School in Iowa
    • No. 90 Jeren Kendall, an outfielder from Holmen (Wis.) High School
    • x-No. 97 J.J. Schwarz, a catcher from Palm Beach Gardens High School in Florida
x-• No. 98 Evan Skoug, a catcher from Libertyville (Ill.) High School

While Bukauskas, Weisenberg and Marshall are the most prominent examples, several other high schoolers have fallen because of their strong college commitments. Some, such as xTate Blackman (ranked No. 108 and a Mississippi signee), have taken to Twitter to reaffirm their plans to attend college.

Re: Official 2014 Draft Day 3 Thread

    ****2006
    7 - Justin Turner
    17 - Chris Heisey
    ****2007
    21 - Jeremey Horst
    26 - Curt Partch
    ****2008
    9 - David Sappelt
    32 - Justin Freeman
    ****2009
    10 - Tucker Barnhart
    13 - Nick Christiani
    ****2010
    None

Note that both 2009 and 2010 there are a lot of guys still on the prospect list drafted after the third round notably
Waldrop, Vidal, Muhammed, Rogers, Hayes, Greene, Mugarian. Year by year you can expect 2 players after the third round to reach the majors. In more recent years Lively was a 4th rounder, Kivel 10th.

What really keeps you dreaming is the thought of a Pujols (13th), Piazza (62d), Sandberg (20th), Oswalt (23rd) landing in the Reds net. Here's hoping they find a Hall of Famer on Saturday's end of draft.
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

Rapid fire picks today. 10 min break between rounds 25 and 26.

Who are people hoping we draft that fell because of signability?

Marshall, McKinney and/or Schwarz. Drafting and signing one of those three would turn my ridiculously premature grade for this draft from a C- to a C+

Committed to U of L. Looks like a good pick, advanced for his age. Great defensive C with some upside offensively.

One of the first pictures of Trees when you search his name

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
