Of course it's too early to call. But right now if I had to take one, I'd still take Norris, four years later.

The Dodgers will also take on Webb’s entire salary, which was likely a condition required in order to coerce the Orioles to part with the Competitive Balance pick. Baltimore will send the No. 74 pick in the 2015 draft to the Dodgers to help facilitate the deal. That pick comes with a slot value of $827K, which the Orioles will lose from their pool and the Dodgers will add to their pool. The Orioles’ draft pool will drop from $7,677,400 to $6,850,400, while the Dodgers’ pool will rise from $6,954,700 to $7,781,700.

Sean Casey serves as a mentor to Ian Happ, wonder if there is anything further to read into that.

This is the one top-flight hitter I'm most curious about at the moment. Thanks for posting.

    Re: Looking Ahead: 2015 Draft

I love the Happ kid. Doing some more googling I found nothing but positives. Quality all the way around - hard working, baseball rat mentality, great approach to hitting, local University, good upbringing and family, intelligent and has had good coaching and mentors who know what they're talking about. We talk all the time on here about the need for Reds to get some professional hitters who use the whole field, make consistent contact and have plate discipline. Here's the kid, right under their noses...
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

    Re: Looking Ahead: 2015 Draft

Yeah I'm starting to get on the Happ train big time. I can handle it if somebody else drafts him ahead of the Reds, but if he's there and the Reds pass, it would be extremely tough to swallow.

    McDaniel On The June Draft

By Charlie Wilmoth [April 18, 2015 at 12:47pm CDT]

Here’s the latest on the 2015 draft, via a massive post from FanGraphs’ Kiley McDaniel.

McDaniel notes that there isn’t much top-level talent in this draft (an opinion shared by many analysts), and says that the industry is unclear what the Diamondbacks will do with, or even how they’re thinking about, the first pick in the draft.

The Astros, who have the second overall pick, appear to be focused on high school shortstop Brendan Rodgers, UC-Santa Barbara pitcher Dillon Tate, and Vanderbilt infielder Dansby Swanson, who McDaniel ranks the top three prospects in the draft.

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington was seen on ESPNU last night watching Swanson and Vanderbilt pitcher Carson Fulmer. The Red Sox pick seventh. They’ve also been connected to LSU shortstop Alex Bregman. McDaniel ranks Bregman the fourth-best prospect in the draft, Fulmer the seventh.

Since the draft lacks much top talent, one possibility is that many teams will draft second-round-type players in the first round and save money against their bonus pools for later picks in the draft.

McDaniel ranks Astros unsigned 2014 No. 1 pick Brady Aiken the No. 24 prospect in the draft, noting that many in the industry feel that Aiken’s arm issues go beyond Tommy John surgery and that he could have further injury problems later in his career.

Speaking of Happ, my friend dated him for three years and she broke up with him last year. Seems like that could have been a mistake since he'll be a millionaire in two months.
