The big point here is Hoover. I'm sure last year's Hoover would be the seventh inning guy. His troubles this year are a problem and somebody else is needed.
He was a closer in college and pitched in relief, in high leverage situations, in his first time in the bigs. He shouldn't have problems warming up quickly.

Agreed. Although Davis is so mediocre that there was still no excuse for leCure not to get him out.
So Davis gets another RBI to go with his two grand slams. Unreal.

Edit-I got that wrong. His ERA is over 5. His FIP is actually decent. Only a few starts. Just came up.

Pirates guys debating why the ball didn't go out in the 9th. Duh. Also lamenting relief pitching. Must be a universal problem.

Diamondbacks in the process of blowing the lead.

It doesn't buy him all the slack in the world, but if you got rid of every reliever who had a bad stretch, you'd end up with nobody left.
I didn't see any posts saying he was never any good or we should get rid of him. He's been an average pitcher over the years. But lately, when we really need an average pitcher, he hasn't even been that.

THe Pirate's problem is that when you only get 4 or 5 innings out of your starter every night, sooner or later the relief pitching will burn out.

I guess that is what happens when you're in last place and instead of worrying about winning you're worried about hitting batters to show you're tough.

2 on, 1 out in Arizona.

The Dback reliever throws behind Ryan Braun.
Ump walks out to him and warns him.
Next pitch, he plunks Braun and gets ejected.

    Bases loaded.

    Next batter....grand slam.

He is going to be able to really focus on that vendetta when he is out of a job after the season.

If the Cardinals can rattle off a 12 game winning streak, then the Reds will be allowed to go 8-4 in those 12 games. Color me excited!

I was recently lectured that "the loss column", not games behind, are what matter.

So I guess I should point out the Reds are 1 game out of the wild card, "in the loss column".

If that's the case, how does he explain working for Tony LaRussa.

And btw, the best way to get even with Braun is to strike him out, not throw at him.
