Wow. 39.8% K rate in 2013 and 38.5% in 2014. If he could cut out the Ks, I am sure he could be come a decent prospect given his power and BB rate, but I am sure the Rockies dealt Riggins because they doubt Riggins will ever stop striking out way too much.

Big, big strikeout numbers and the two places he has hit for real power numbers are two places where it's well known that the baseball absolutely flies.

    Iglesias!

Maybe Crabbe gets a start or two while awaiting for the visa to come through for Iglesias.

    Here's something from the 2011 draft: http://baseballdraftreport.com/2011/...011-mlb-draft/

    North Carolina State JR 1B Harold Riggins (.302/.442/.442 – 29 BB/46 K)

Another personal favorite coming into the year who hasn’t delivered quite what was expected in the power department. Positional versatility could help him make it as one of those four-corners utility guys we talked about earlier.

Hate to say it, but it looks like a non-event to me. I liked the Jurrjens pickup a lot more than this trade. Hard to see how Riggins can make enough progress on that K rate to be of much ML help. But I wish him well.

Agreed. Looks like we were just doing Jurrjens and the Rockies a solid. Riggins looks more like organizational filler than a bona fide prospect.

Obviously that could change if he makes major improvements, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

His strikeout numbers are just too much to overlook to get excited about at this point.

I don't think we're supposed to be excited about this move. It strikes me more about Jurrjens likely being exercising his opt-out and getting something for him (the proverbial "bag of balls."). I just now checked to see how Riggins is doing and I see that we sent him down to A+ Bakersfield and not to Pensacola. He's not doing much down there. I believe someone said it earlier - basically organizational filler. I mean, the hope is always that something can be made of players who have struggled, but I don't have high hopes that Riggins will be anything meaningful in the Reds' future.

His numbers and sending him down to Bakersfield tells me they acquired him for 1B depth in the minors, nothing more. Remember, last year they had guys plying out of position, like SMB, because of a shortage of 1st sackers in the farm. Sometimes you need Marquez Smiths and Harold Rigginses just to fill slots.
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...
