Basically you punt your whole draft over a $3 million dollar difference.

I defended the Astros low payroll with the idea that they would have money to spend in ensuing years and they didn't want to waste any beforehand. Now I am thinking Crane is just a cheap SOB.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Here's where it gets fun....

Luhnow made a statement that he tried to contact Casey Close today, who is the adviser for Aiken and Nix.

The problem with that is that Close is not allowed to deal directly with the teams on the behalf of the players or he is considered an agent, which destroys the players college eligibility.

These three are probably going to try to be declared free agents by an arbiter. Not a bad bet on their part, in my opinion.

How about the fans that bought the Brady Aiken jerseys from the team shop?

What a total botch of the first overall pick.

They botched their entire draft. They had money to sign Aiken and Nix, even if they stuck with Aiken at his original agreed to $6.5M. They wound up with neither of them.

Hopefully the rest of the unsold jerseys can be sent to the same villages as the Superbowl losers champions t-shirts!

It really is a fine line between clever and stupid.

"But in the computer simulation, we got all three picks signed under slot 62.8% of the time."

Re: Houston Astros reduce offer to Brady Aiken.Pull offer to Nix.

Could happen: Nix will file a grievance and win his 1.5M, thus making the Astros over slot and they will forfeit their next two years first round picks. Ouch. Not to mention the legal fees they will surely rack up. All over a 3M difference/dispute.
