I don't mean on this 2014 team because we have an All-Star third baseman and there's a reason why Rolen is retired, but in general. He was just a joy to watch both at the plate and in the field and should be Cooperstown bound in my opinion given his position played. One can only wonder how much better he could have been if not for the injuries that plagued the second half of his Cardinals tenure.
I only wish the Reds had acquired him years earlier.

everyone playing with him said it was great to have him and I think that he was a good impact to this ballclub (some players aswell) but his onfield production wasn´t that good (or fun to watch)

I think his off field contributions will, and have, outlasted his on-field abilities to the Reds.
The relationships he built with the players when he came over, seemed to mean a great deal to a group of young players trying to find their way in the Majors. From sitting in the dugout with Bruce when they were both on the DL, to what Phillips said Rolen told him about overly showboating( that Phillips could pimp his HRs all he wants, but that if he took one in the ribs because of it, they would have a talk), and BP seemed to respect that from him as well. Votto also talked a great deal about the effect Rolen had on him. To the generic team wide concepts of just going about your business, to the "need ya on third Brucie" team mantra.
In general, I too wonder what could have been, but I also appreciate what was.

The injuries broke him down quick, but I'm glad we got to see a healthy Rolen there for half a season in 2010. Phillips, Votto, Rolen, and Bruce were just murder in middle of that lineup.

Scott Rolen was an asset to the Reds, both on and off the field. While he chose the right time to retire, quality people are always missed. I hope that if he ever decides to get back in game in a coaching or front office capacity, he will do so with the Reds. Hopefully he will also make a return appearance at GABP some time. The fans never really got the chance to say goodbye, and many of them would like to show their appreciation.

I liked that he was just a calm, quiet professional. He wasn't one to show you up at the plate (like Gomez or Puig). He didn't pimp a homerun... he didn't scream when you struck him out. He just played the game. Some might call that robotic - I call it professional.
I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher.
