    Ervin gettin it done.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Is Winker OK? I know he had the ASG stuff...but he only has 8 AB in the past 11 days. Just curious.

Might Howard follow the same path as Lorenzen last year? Move him along as a reliever quickly in the hope that he might be helpful as a ML reliever in September and then move him to a starting role in 2015?

No to the part about helping the bullpen in 2015. They aren't going to burn an option on him for that. They would go with Lorenzen or Stephenson in that role if they were going to do something on that path, though I don't see either of those happening either. Now, whether or not they promote him aggressively or not is another story. Do they get him to Double-A in three weeks so he is easier to qualify for the AFL? Or do they put him in the AFL as their one slot for a guy below Double-A? Do they send him to the AFL at all?

Makes sense. I didn't think it through. They certainly would not want to burn an option if they were going to convert him to starter. That might take several years to get him to the majors. I had not considered the AFL. IIRC, that was the beginning of Lorenzen's transition to starting. If it worked once....
