    Chapman Has "Achy" Shoulder

    http://www.cincinnati.com/story/reds...lder/14271505/

ST. LOUIS -- It turns out closer Aroldis Chapman is hurting.

Chapman was unavailable in the Reds' 6-5, 10-inning loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Monday.

"He's a little achy," said Reds manager Bryan Price. "He didn't want to say anything (Sunday)."

Chapman told Price and the trainer he was fine during a mound visit in the game.

    It's Chapman's shoulder.

    Well, that's reassuring.
"This isnít stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Ah joy, another player who thinks he's helping his team by playing injured.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Re: Chapman Has "Achy" Shoulder

If my mind still works properly I seem to remember his having bouts of wildness prior to a DL stint a couple of season ago. Wasn't there a stretch his first season where he couldn't hit the side of a barn from ten feet away?

Edit: April into May of 2011. 4 appearances Walked 12 of 19 batters faced over 1 1/3 innings and 9 of last 12. No outs in two of the appearances.

He went onto the DL with Shoulder inflammation.

Over his last four outings, the Reds' Cuban fireballer Aroldis Chapman has faced 19 batters and walked 12 of them. As Baseball Nation's Rob Neyer wrote earlier today, the Reds didn't seem concerned; in that feature he quoted Reds pitching coach Bryan Price:

"His arm slot gets too low," Price said. "He gets across the ball. He's pulling a lot of balls inside to right-handed hitters."

Confidence can also play into it when you struggle. Chapman has walked eight batters in his last three outings and has only gotten three outs.

"I think the first part is a slight mechanical adjustment. The second part is that when he's out there, he's pitching with his confidence. When you struggle a while, you start to question yourself a little bit. I don't know that he's there, but I know it's a typical response."

Physically, Price said, Chapman is fine.
Over the course of less than 24 hours, Chapman went from "fine" to "placed on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation", according to this tweet from the Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan:

Hopefully we are getting all our bad luck out of the way, and 2015 will be a charmed season.

maybe all the 102-104 fastballs he thrown over the last month has caught up with him. it's crazy how many he's thrown.
there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.

Not only did this happen, but if I remember correctly, there was discussion about he wasn't supposed to keep quiet if he wasn't 100 percent. I'm so glad he learned from his experience.
