    Cincinnati Reds
Signed: RHP Daniel Cabrera (Chunichi (Japan))

Hard-throwing, towering 6-foot-7 righthander Daniel Cabrera pitched about as well in Japan as he had in Triple-A, going 11-12, 3.49 in two seasons (34 starts) for Chunichi. He missed a few more bats in the Central League (7.3 strikeouts per nine innings) than he did in the International and Pacific Coast leagues (6.6), though he had nearly identical hit (8.6) and walk (3.5) rates. Cabrera spent the winter with Escogido of the Dominican League, going 0-2, 10.66 in five starts with 11 walks and eight strikeouts in 13 innings.

Righty Chris Carpenter has inked a minor league pact with the Reds, per Eddy. The 29-year-old worked to a 4.73 ERA over 32 1/3 innings in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league last year. He has spent time with the Cubs and Red Sox previously, briefly cracking the bigs in both 2011 and 2012.

Righty Daniel Cabrera has been released by the Reds, the club’s Triple-A affiliate tweets. The 33-year-old has not appeared in the big leagues since 2009, and spent each of the last two seasons playing in Japan. He made just one appearance at Louisville this season, going three innings and allowing one earned run but issuing four free passes and striking out only one opposing batter.

The Reds have signed outfielder Jose Constanza to a minor-league deal, according to MLB.com’s transactions page. The 31-year-old Constanza collected 240 plate appearances with the Braves from 2011 through 2014, batting .273/.316/.323. He spent most of last season with Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves released him last month.

    Reds Release Donald Lutz

By Jeff Todd [June 3, 2015 at 4:49pm CDT]

The Reds have released first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz, the club announced. His 40-man spot was needed for the promotion of Ivan DeJesus Jr., who is filling in for the injured Marlon Byrd.

Lutz entered the year rated as Cincinnati’s 28th-best prospect, in the eyes of Baseball America, after reaching as high as 16th on that list in prior seasons. As C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer notes on Twitter, Lutz underwent Tommy John surgery a month ago.

While he’s only seen 113 largely unsuccessful plate appearances in the big leagues, and was off to a rough start this year prior to his surgery, Lutz has generally put up appealing batting lines throughout his minor league career. His primary strength is in the power department, and he owns a cumulative MiLB slugging percentage of .470.

Lutz is most notable, of course, for being the first major league ballplayer who was developed in Germany. While he was born in the United States, his family moved to Germany when he was just one year old, and he played there until signing as an international free agent back in 2007.

I assumed this is what would happen. Did Lutz end up the same way? I don't recall.

Ervin and Wallach are back and playing.

Armstrong made a start and a half and then went back on the DL.

Cincinnati Reds acquire RHP Miguel Celestino from the Boston Red Sox

This is from Mike Antonellis, the broadcaster for the Portland Seadogs, where Miguel Celestino was playing.

Celestino is a 25-year-old reliever who has split time in Double-A and Triple-A with Boston this season. He struggled in Double-A Portland in limited innings, but had more success at the Triple-A level.

The Reds have acquired righty Miguel Celestino from the Red Sox, Portland Sea Dogs broadcaster Mike Antonellis tweets. Celestino, 25, posted a 4.53 ERA, 6.7 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 in 45 2/3 innings at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. He’s spent most of the past three seasons pitching in relief. He did not rank in MLB.com’s list of the Red Sox’ top 30 prospects.

    Re: Reds Minor League FA's

This little tidbit was on MLBTradeRumors

Corner infielder Josh Satin has an opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Reds that he could exercise on Wednesday, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. Should Satin exercise the clause, the Reds would be required to either add Satin to their 25-man roster or let all 29 other clubs know that he is available to be added to their 25-man roster within 48 hours. (Cincinnati would choose Satin’s destination if multiple teams expressed interest.) Satin, 30, is batting .263/.368/.387 in 225 Triple-A plate appearances this season. He’s a career .243/.346/.351 hitter in the Majors and has been much more effective against left-handed pitching (.793 OPS) than right-handed pitching (.613 OPS). All of Satin’s big league experience has come with the Mets.
