“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Player Notes
Reds signed RHP Marcus Walden to a minor league contract.
Advice: Walden, 26, pitched in the minors for the Blue Jays and Athletics this past season while posting a 5.35 ERA and 61/43 K/BB ratio over 99 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. He's more organizational depth for Cincinnati.

Rangers top prospect watch: No. 12 Wilmer Font
WFAA Staff, WFAA.com
Font throws one of the fastest pitches in the Texas system, regularly sitting in the 95-97 range, hitting 99 in an August Round Rock game last season, and other reports had him in the triple-digits. His command of it can be questionable, though he still manages to strike out almost twice as many people as he walks. He does throw the fastball nearly 90% of the time, using a low 80s slider and split-fingered changeup rarely. The two off-speed pitches are fringy and Font struggles to find the strike zone with them, possibly both a cause and result of his seeming reluctance to use them.
If he develops the secondary pitches to their potential, Font could have a similar impact to Tanner Scheppers, with an overpowering fastball ideal for a late-innings situation, and good-enough secondaries to throw off major league hitters' timing. If his development stalls and the fastball remains his only comfortable pitch, Font could still be productive from the 'pen, but in a more limited, low-leverage role, like Henry Rodriguez, currently of the Miami Marlins.

Font, Flores and Walden are all interesting. Especially Font IMO.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Reds cornering the Jumbo Diaz lookalikes. Font and Flores are big dudes -- both 250 pounds plus. And both have killer fastballs, especially Font, who has averaged 10.7 KOs per 9 innings pitched over his seven-year minor league career, posting an astronomical 17.4 SO9 ratio during his AA stint with Frisco back in 2012. These guys have weaknesses, but a few of these pickups are close to the Show, and could with a little nudge become useful additions to our bullpen. Sweet pickups.

Cincinnati Reds
Signed: RHP Jose de la Torre. RHP Jose Flores, RHP Wilmer Font, RHP Marcus Walden, SS Irving Falu
A massive, 6-foot-4 Venezuelan, Wilmer Font’s minor league strikeout rates and six total appearances in the Prospect Handbook indicate the level of his arm strength. With better health and touch better control (career walk rate of 4.8 per nine innings), he probably would have significantly more than three career big league innings. Still, he’s a strong candidate to turn in a useful relief season sooner or later, possibly with the Reds in 2015.

The Reds signed pitchers Jose De La Torre, Marcus Walden, and utility infielder Irving Falu. De La Torre, 29, offers big strikeout stuff with control issues out of the bullpen. He appeared briefly for the Red Sox in 2013. Walden is less flashy than De La Torre, and he has spent most of his minor league career in the rotation. The 26-year-old has posted a 3.92 ERA, 5.4 K/9, and 3.1 BB/9 over 622 minor league innings. His results in the upper minors have been markedly worse. Falu, 32 next season, has appeared briefly for the Royals, Brewers, and Padres over the past two years.
Falu had a Negron-in-2014 like 2012 with the Royals, then fell to reality. Interestingly, his minor league numbers aren't markedly better than Kris (.699 Falu vs .683 Negron).
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...
