Cingrani ready to take advantage of second chance

"I feel strong. I was cleared months ago to go. I'll be fine," Cingrani said.

Price hasn't ruled out Cingrani for a spot in the bullpen, depending on how things shake out during the offseason and in Spring Training. Cingrani has made his preference known.

"I want to be a starter," he said.
    Good additional quotes from Price.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Could do a lot worse than having TonyC and TonyD as 4th and 5th starters, that's for sure.

Yea, a healthy Cingrani would be a huge boost to the team next year.
Hope he really is better and can contribute.
    Thanks for the article Tom.

Cingrani feels "skrong." I like it.

Is he in the best shape of his life though?

And Iglesias perhaps ready to be a starter if either of them falter.

Watching the highlights of his first start last season, I forgot all about this game. He never looked like this again the rest of the season, just stuff wise. Filthy.

Anybody else see Cingrani and think Norm Charlton? I remember thinking that Charlton could be a really good starter if the Reds would just give him a chance. Truth was, he was ok as a starter in small doses, but he shined in late relief. I get the same feeling about Cingrani.

I hear you. But due to the trades of Latos and Simon, it's irrelevant for this season. Cingrani will be a starter. And I think that's the way to go until proven otherwise. We already have one lefty in the pen that should be a starter.

Exactly what I think. The Reds really need somebody who will be around beyond 2015 to establish himself in the rotation. I have high hopes for Cingrani, but I think he'd be the answer to fixing the pen. Not as confident about him as a starter, but he's still got a decent chance IMO.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I can totally see Cingrani taking out Mike Scioscia at a play at plate, too.

I'll believe 2015 is going to be different when I see it.

In 2013, he threw 104.2 innings with the Reds, after starting the season in AAA throwing 31.1 innings for Louisville. 136 innings won't cut it this year, but I think saying "He couldn't stay healthy in 2013" is a stretch. He wasn't with the Reds until May and had some minor back injury that didn't allow him to pitch in September (when they were going to likely limit his innings anyway as a rookie).

He was also injury-free throughout the 2012 season, when he tore up two levels of the minors (some at advanced A Bakersfield; the majority at AA Pensacola).

All that being said, I'm concerned whenever a pitcher has a shoulder injury ... and Tony Cingrani is coming off a shoulder injury. So, I hear what you're saying.

See, I look at it the other way around. Tony has basically one pitch. His breaking stuff is all in development still IIRC. He's better suited for the pen IMO. While Chapman is better suited for the rotation now that he's gotten the slider and changeup down.
