That's terrible. Rest in Peace, Mr. Cub. I loved watching you play.

Despite being born almost two decades after Banks last played, I was obsessed with him as a kid (along with Roberto Clemente) and was thrilled the day when I pulled out a special autographed Ernie Banks card from a baseball card pack.
RIP Ernie.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
I've used his quote as my tag line for years because I feel the same way he did.......RIP Ernie.
Let's play two!!!

One of the best. His love of the game was infectious.
I wish I had seen him play, a real legend of the game, even bigger than just baseball, at least to me who grew up loving the sport. His was, is, a magical name

Seemed like a better person than a player, and he was quite a player.

While I saw Ernie Banks play, it was as a first baseman in the late 1960s, when he was a ghost of himself. I never saw him play in his prime as a shortstop. He had a six year stretch between 1955 and 1960 when he was arguably as good as any player in the game, winning two MVPs on terrible Cub teams, twice leading the NL in HRs and having the highest WAR in the NL in 1959 with a score of 10.2. For all that, as George noted, he seemed to be an even better person than he was a player. RIP.
