Reds 2015 trade deadline linked news and rumors only thread

Here is a thread for linked news and rumors. No discussion, proposals, reaction, fun, or speculation nor is there to be non-Reds rumors unless said rumors may have an effect on the Reds. If this is not followed there will be no Reds rumors for you.

The #Reds have not packaged Cueto and Chapman in any proposals so far, preferring separate deals, if they do decide to move their closer.

Re: Reds 2015 trade deadline linked news and rumors only thread

A couple prominent National League clubs are looking to make deals at the upcoming non-waiver Trade Deadline, with ace starting pitchers at the forefront of the conversations.
According to FOXSports.com's Jon Morosi, the Reds are "prepared" to trade pitchers Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake since the All-Star break has passed, and CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman says the Dodgers are one of the teams most interested in Cueto.
Heyman, who calls the Dodgers "baseball's financial powerhouse," says they "look like a major player this trading season."

Both Leake and Cueto will be free agents at the end of the season, and Heyman says the Astros also have Cueto at the top of their list.

@Ken_Rosenthal: If you’re a GM selling a top starter, shouldn’t you be motivated to act sooner rather than later? Market already deep and could get deeper.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Already available: Hamels, Kazmir, Cueto, Leake, four #Padres starters, Latos, Haren. Could grow to include Samardzija, Gallardo, even Price
Rounding third and heading for home...

Rival executives say the Royals are pushing hard for Cueto, but I wonder at some point if the OF needs will trump desire for another SP.

During the 2nd inning tonight, I forget which Ctrent or Fay, said the Angels have Hal Morris in town to closely scout Jay Bruce.

Reds open the gates for a fire sale involving pretty much everyone, except Frazier and Hamilton.

Yeah Jocketty said Frazier was staying put.We could get a lot of great talent back for all these players IF the Reds play it smart and do it right.

Direct link to the Fay article:
    http://www.cincinnati.com/story/spor...reds/30310277/

The fire sale is in full swing. The Reds have put all the players they willing to part with on the shelf. Owner Bob Castellini has given go-ahead to trade as needed.
The fire sale is happening at time when Jocketty's approval rating among fans has eroded. That happens when your team plays as poorly as the Reds have the last two seasons.

But what Jocketty did in Phase 1 of the fire sale should inspire some confidence. Remember, they jettisoned Mat Latos and Alfredo Simon at the Winter Meetings. They got Anthony DeSclafani and Chad Wallach from Miami for Latos. And they got Eugenio Suarez and Jonathon Crawford from Detroit for Simon.

    Angels interested in Jay Bruce:

The Angels are interested in Reds outfielder Jay Bruce, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Morosi adds that the Halos have a scout in Cincinnati watching the Reds take on the Indians.

    From PDoc:

"I was assured in no uncertain terms on Saturday that the Reds would be doing big trade things in "the next eight to 10 days." The word came from the proverbial well-placed-source, highly reliable. Is there any other kind?"

According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Orioles have expressed interest in Johnny Cueto and Jay Bruce from the Reds.

The Orioles have been calling around looking for any possible upgrades they can make to their squad, so the fact that they would have interest in two premium players that are likely to be dealt is no surprise. It's shaping up to be a very interesting couple of weeks around the league with all of the trade rumblings.

Re: Reds 2015 trade deadline linked news and rumors only thread

Posted for information only. Discussion in the other thread please:

Gammons says Jekyll/Hyde Red Sox scouting Cueto but thinking about selling.

Cueto and Leake are obviously rentals. Houston is willing to rent if Cueto can get them deep into October. Kansas City may be, as well. Boston discussed it, thinking if they got him and made a run, his relationship with Pedro Martinez might give them a chance to sign him.
Joel Sherman examines the Cueto/Hamels market:

One AL executive ticking off those reasons said, “Cueto is getting traded. That’s a fact.”

The only matter that could prevent a trade is an injury. Cueto has endured health problems in his career, and missed a short time in late May with a cranky elbow. He returned to post a 2.36 ERA in eight starts before Sunday, when he was uncharacteristically wild, walking six in just four innings.

Cueto told reporters afterward he is healthy. But interested teams are going to have to be positive about that diagnosis to give up major assets.

The Reds are the “primary seller to watch,” says Gammons, and as one GM points out, it’ll be somewhat unfamiliar territory for the club. “It’s not easy for them,” the GM told Gammons. “Walt Jocketty has been so successful over the years, he hasn’t had much experience with the sell mode. [Owner Bob] Castellini has been reluctant to pack it in.”
The Red Sox may have at one point discussed Cueto, but Gammons writes that the Astros are presently willing to rent the Cincinnati ace. The Royals could be in that boat as well, he adds.
