Leadoff double for Pittsburgh in the 8th and now the Pirates fans are loud and obnoxious.
I dont care, Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. Hes in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.

Walker singles to right after a groundout.

Redszone favorite Brennan Boesch just knocked in 2 runs to give the Bats the win in their last game of the season.

Jumbo vs the heart of the Pirates order seems like trouble.

These are the high-leverage situations where Chapman makes sense to me, in an attempt to use him more and better.

4 pitch walk from Jumbo to McCutchen.

There is no way on earth I would use Chapman here. None.

Let him pitch his usual ninth inning, if it's a close situation.

The Pirates may be headed to the World Series. The Reds aren't. Preserve your assets. Nothing out of the usual. Keep Aroldis healthy, all that matters for him.

The point still holds though, outside of the nothing-to-play-for status of the season. The "save," if it comes, might be in the eighth against the heart of the order.

The ninth inning may present a "save" situation too. It may be a tough inning too.

All these posts about using Chapman early, I've read them for several seasons. You can't warm up Chapman every time there's trouble.

The answer is a deep late inning bullpen with three or four good choices. Four IMO.

Here's my theory on that: The debate has evolved into a specific situation ... eighth inning, heart of the order coming up, score is close enough for a save. There's your save, not the ninth after the danger has passed. It's not that much more frequent than a traditional save, except when you have a closer that hasn't pitched for a week.

The Pirates committed 4 errors... The Reds didn't....

    That sums up today's game.
