    Jason Heyward signs with Cubs

Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub 9m9 minutes ago
Multiple sources indicate Heyward has indeed chosen Cubs over Cards, Nats.

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago
Cubs are believed to have gotten heyward for less than $200M. Apparently taking less to be at addison and clark. @GDubCub 1st

On the one hand, hooray the Cubs overpaid and that this makes Cardinals fans all angry and red online. On the other hand, I fear missing out on Price and Heyward could mean the Cardinals go hard after Cueto.
I dont care, Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. Hes in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.

I guess Heyward never wants to win a World Series. Also, he must like goats.

Really my favorite outcome, for the reasons Servo explained. I actually would be quite entertained by seeing the Best Fans In Baseball react to the Cards signing Cueto, though I just don't see their happening.
The team Matheny described several times this weekend as the team he thinks the Cardinals could be, is actually the team the Reds have become.

Cubs are scary as heck. I wonder how they'll play that OF. Soler in RF, Schwarber in LF? Maybe Zobrist in LF and Baez at 2B? Trade Baez or Soler for a CF? Can Schwarber catch? In any event, that is one scary offense and with enough supplementary talent to still add pitching depth. The Reds aren't going to be competing for the division title for a long time.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

As for Heyward, I said elsewhere, I see him as Carl Crawford 2.0. He'll be goods or a few years, but the Cubs will likely be begging teams to take his contract off their hands shortly.

Schwarber is "learning" to catch I read, he won't be in the OF often... I think I read they want him to catch 100 games at least(?)

What's a few steps above NSFW...cause that's what that account is. Yikes.

Apparently, Heyward is now a "trader"...like on Wall Street or something? Didn't see that coming.

This could open up a Solar or Baez trade for a pitcher. Reds should be on that.

Combined with the Zobrist signing, I'd say that pretty well seals the 2016 NL Central deal.

But yes, I know they still have to play the games, and avoid a plague of injuries.

Re: Jason Heyward signs with Cubs

Short term this probably helps the Cubs but long term the contracts they have signed outside of Heyward will make them old fast - Lackey and Lester are in their 30s and Zobrist isn't exactly a kid. Their run will not be as long as they think it will be.
